2.25", unless you plan on a blower or turbo setup.

Re: exhaust piping size

On a stock car, you won't notice a difference between the 2. About the only thing 2.5 over 2 1/4 would do is reduce your backpressure and lower your torque slightly but raise your horsepower. Of course I'm talking about in insignificant measurements of horsepower.

Re: exhaust piping size

You're not gonna get a difference in the quarter either way IMO. The gains/losses between the two are so insignificant it's not even worth worrying about on a stock car. If you are planning on building the engine or going with a forced induction system sometime, then the 2.5 will give you better gains in the future.

Re: exhaust piping size

2.25 is better suited for a mild setup.

That is what my old exhaust was and worked well.

Re: exhaust piping size

until you have a good bit of power 2.25 is perfectly fine, if memory serves me right the exhaust 2.25 inch piping is not a problem until 300rwhp~

Re: exhaust piping size

I had 2.5" straight pipe mated with 3.5" tips, and it worked out just fine for me... so either way you go is fine. But think seriously about the power adder thing... cause you may want to, but you may also not have the means to get there.

Spec may be right on, but the #'s I have used all the time are 300 BHP, at the crank.
Our Even-fire V6's may get more out of the 2.25" pipes than a V8 does, we've got the
even fire advantage, and adding a crossover is a good bet for any nearly maxxed-out
exhaust system.

A quick ROT chart for exhaust system sizing...
(ROT = rule of thumb)
2.25": up to 300 BHP
2.5" : up to 400 BHP
3" : over 400 BHP

These will overlap somewhat, but these general guidelines work well
for Mustang use, and the available systems. It also assumes the use
of mandrel bent tubing, so get good quality pipe bending.

Re: exhaust piping size

friend of mine has 2.25" after the cats to the muffler, then after his flowmasters he has 2.5" that goes into 4" tips. it sounds great for a stock 6.
