What octane to use

I have been putting shells' 93 octane but have felt it alot weeker i was putting 89 before and felt it alot quicker and it responded faster. Is it safe to use 93 on a stock v6. i was putting it because afriend a of mine told me if i put 93 over the 89 i was using i would be .2 seconds faster in the quarter mile. is this true

Nope, on a stock car without a tune, higher octane gas does nothing. At least on our cars anyway.
Now, if you were to get it tuned to burn 93, it probably would shave some time from the quarter.

87 is all you need for a stock engine with no tune. Before I tuned my car I used 91 every once in a while just for the hell of it and it did seem to respond better at first. .2 seconds is a lot when referring to 1/4 mile times. Stock engine with no tune won't see a gain like that.

Re: What octane to use

Higher octane gas actually burns slower then lower octane fuels. Using this will cause the fuel that is not being burned to build up in your heads, valves, pistons,it's best to match the octane to your tune

Re: What octane to use

some older cars have detonation and need it, but I am pretty sure you only need 87. What type of car do you have?
