Question gt mustang hood scoop

is there any way i can make a gt hood scoop functional? can i cut the part in the hood to let cool air get into the engine bay?? is that a good idea? i dont want to make it ram air i just want to know if its a good idea to open up that vent to let some cold air in. also, what if i remove the heat shield (the cloth-like thing under the hood) if i remove that, could the paint on my hood fade or something? or does it even matter if it's gone?

there would be no need, there is nothing to be gained really by letting water get on your engine~ nore will the "ram air" effect do anything, just like the mach 1 its just for looks.

Re: gt mustang hood scoop

I'd say it depends how hot your engine gets... too hot, you may mess with the paint some... afterall, heat does rise. I wouldn't mess with it personally. Also, it should be noted that the Mach 1 shaker does yield "some" Ram Air effects, but they are nearly negligible until 70-ish mph... when the air force is enough to actually give you 1 or 2 hp... but, when you're dealing with 300+ hp, 1 or 2 hp isn't anything.

Re: gt mustang hood scoop

think of it this way.

you take off the front piece of the scoop. theres still the rest of the hood underneath it. the GT scoop is just a add-on to a normal 99-04 hood. so youd have to cut-out or put slits in the hood under where the GT scoop sits.

and the incoming air, will just be hitting the plenum and intake manifold, and doing really nothing but bringing more air into the engine compartment to get heated.

the only way to get heat out is extractors at the ends of the hood(close to the windshield) that suck the heat out(since it rises to the hood) with the vacuum created by the car moving through the air. the evo's nowadays use this(take a look at their hood, those 2 extractors sit right over the turbo and manifold, and suck out quite a bit of heat, there was a pic on a site where someone was next to one and snapped it, and you could see the heat coming off it cause it made those thermal ripple effects on the background).
