Re: Need Help........

Here's a good article to take a look at. The biggest thing to decide on is where you want to go with the car. Do you want a daily driven car with some bolt ons that'll wake it up, or a built v6 car pushing 350 rwhp?

V6 Mustang Modification Guide

If you want to simply gain some power and improve the car from its stock form, exhaust, a CAI (you don't have to buy a super expensive one, the $74 American Muscle CAI will work fine), udp's, gears/tlok, and a tune.

The best forms of tuning are either a custom dyno tune at a shop, or a custom made set of tunes on a handheld tuner. SCT or Diablosport are the choice handheld tuners here. Dyno tuning really isn't necessary until you really start altering air/fuel ratios, but you certainly can get it dyno tuned if you desire.

Tuning will free up some hp and tq, seriously overhaul your transmission (if you're an auto) better shift points, firmer shifts, extended tranmission life, etc. You can also adjust for gear changes, tire changes, and speed/rev limiters.

Custom places like VMP Tuning, BamaChips, and Breenspeed do good tuning for mustangs. Justing at VMP Tuning does a great job with 99-04 v6's.

Re: Need Help........

Damn you sonic, lol, you beat me to the copy and paste. But most people start off with a CAI and usually a UDP or gears/tlok.

Re: Need Help........

I would go with the SCT XCAL3 if you want something like that. It's more user friendly.

Re: Need Help........

I've heard nothing but negative things about SLR Chips...this includes mustangs, lexus', and civics. Plus snap in chips are really inefficient and a thing of the past. Going with a handheld tuner is much more effective and easier. You can simply plug the tuner into the car, upload which tune you want and go. If you want to change tunes or return to stock, you can do this just as easily. I'd definitely consider a handheld tuner such as SCT or Diablosport and exhaust, that will give your car a slight boost in power and much better sound.

Re: Need Help........

Mustang V6 Cold Air Intake Kit at AmericanMuscle.com - Free Shipping!

This American Muscle CAI will fit the 3.9 v6. AM says it only fits the 99-03's, but there's no difference between the two engines regarding the intake.

I'd go with this CAI simply because it's cheap, get you a couple hp's, and doesn't require a tune to install.
