high pitched noise

i determined that it is not from the engine, but rather from the wheels but i can't pinpoint it, it almost sounds like a high pitched "wavy" kinda noise as the car is moving

any idea of what i should look for? or what it could be?

Re: high pitched noise

How fast do you have to be going until you hear the noise? Can you roll it in Neutral and hear it?

Re: high pitched noise

Yeh, I get slight gear whine around 45-50...at least I used to when I could hear my car.

Re: high pitched noise

If it seems to do it at a certain speed, regardless of engine rpm (i.e. in neutral or any other gear), then it could be a front wheel bearing. This will get noticeably worse in time.

If it does it more in a certain gear (usually OD at a decent speed), then it is more likely gear whine. You'll probably always have at least a little bit of gear whine, it's just a matter of how loud it is and whether or not it is noticeable.

Try to figure out if it's coming from the front or the rear.

Re: high pitched noise

does it sound more like "HIGH PITCHED NOISE SEMI WAVY" or more like "HIGH PITCHED NOISE NORMAL WAVY"

Re: high pitched noise

Find a smooth open road and swerve your car right and left like a drunk driver. If you hear the whine then it's most likely a ball bearing issue.
