Burning Rubber

Whenever I race and I feel confident enough to burn rubber I power launch, release the break and slam the gas all the way. I usually stay at the line spinning my tire while rpms get to about 4k then it shifts into 2nd gear. My question is why does it shift into 2nd and not redline? Would a tuner help change this, maybe? I feel like it messes me up so much. Sometimes while I'm spinning the car advances a bit forward then shifts into 2nd, all the while the other car is moving forward, only then do I have a chance at catching up. If it redlined I think it would well be better since I'm missing out on 1.5k rpms.

Re: Burning Rubber

In that 1.5k rpms...you will be doing nothing but spinning. Spinning will not help you win a race. Spinning is a good way to help yourself lose races. The other guy is just pulling on you because he is not spinning.

And, your car is shifting because that is the RPM that the computer knows to shift at. It doesn't care if you are moving at 1 mph or 100 mph....when it reaches the shift point, it shifts. A tuner can change your shift points, but as long as you are spinning, you will not be doing anything better. The shift is actually helping you as it will kill your spin and let the power move you forward.

Trust me...spin = sucky race results....and I know a lot about spinning at launch. I lost to a GT with 140 hp less than me because I could not stop spinning through 1st, 2nd, and 1/2 of 3rd....

Yeh, don't launch like that, your goal is to not spin, or spin minimally.

Re: Burning Rubber

A Traction lok and 17" rims do wonder for traction on a stock V6 Mustang... its almost impossible to spin the tires on launch

Re: Burning Rubber

I read that.... "I spin through first gear" going, omg, no way, not unless you have sand or water on the road... and then I remembered, doh, I had a GT rear, if I just punched it at a light, they'd cut loose a bit, but within 3 seconds, first gear would be cooking... never shifted to second unless sand or water was on the road, and then I could peel out until 3rd.
