New to Fords..

Hello everyone....I have been a dodge and plymouth guy all my life...I have a
dodge dakota p/u with a fully modded 3.9 V6...and when I say modded I mean with dodge you can trick out all the sensors on the engine to fool the
pcm...and add horspower...I recently bought a 07 4.0L mustang...I guess my question would be is it possible to do the same sensor mods on this ford like I have done on my dodge.....I do have to say though I installed a cold air intake on the mustang and thats all so far but man does this thing have balls...the first time I pulled it in low and power braked it out of the hole..I was really suprised at burnin the back tires up off the line....so just curious if the sensor mods are possible....thanx.....

Re: New to Fords..

Welcome.. I have no idea if that's possible, I've never heard of that being done on a mustang before.

Welcome to the site. Yeah, a CAI with a tune will really wake those 4.0's up.

Re: New to Fords..

welcome to the site! i'm not sure about the answer to your question either, but there is plenty to be learned here on the site, with some friendly & helpful people.

I, too had a Dodge Dakota but with the 5.9 and it was 4X4. man was that thing fun. Recently got rid of it for my new Foxbody 5.0 and i def. don't regret it!

Re: New to Fords..

I'm not sure about sensor mods...maybe sensors on the intake or fuel systems, I don't believe mustangs have adjustable individual parameters.

You can tune the ECU which will adjust the air/fuel parameters. The 4.0's are very sensitive in those areas. Usually most CAI's require a tune to maximize the effectiveness of the CAI, and keep the engine from running lean which can lead to detonation. With the tuner you can also remove speed/rev limiters, adjust for gear/tire changes, and alter shift points/firmness in auto transmissions.

Depending on how aggressive the tune is (which octane you use), you can gain 20+ hp and tq.

Re: New to Fords..

by sensor mods I mean for instance..the intake air temp sensor,,,,I put a 3k ohm resistor
inline on the pos side of the sensor...this makes the pcm think that the engine is pulling in ice cold air and therefor advances the timing and the fuel mixture resulting in extra horsies.......

You can do that, but its a BAD idea as it just wastes gas.. Ive been there and done it put a CAI, exhaust, UDP, gears, tune and your good to go with the basic bolt ons.

Yea, it's called getting a tune. Although, tuning a car isn't necessarily going to add much performance unless the vehicle is modded or the manufacture is holding back a good bit with the factory setup.

Also, to elaborate when we say modded in the Mustang realm we are speaking of bolt-ons. H/C/I, CAI, Full Exhuast, etc...etc... etc..

YOU WILL NEVER GO BACK

You sir, are my long lost vehicular twin. I had a 2000 dakota sport with the 4.7 v8, black on black with push bars, cold air intake, flowmasters, SCT chip. I used to brag how I could take v6 mustangs in it all day long until one day the engine blew up cause Ford didn't make it. I then actually test drove a 4.0 mustang and realized that none of the people I had beat were actually racing me.

Long story short, I was saving up for a Challenger but when the engine blew I had to buy something quick within my budget, the 4.0 (5 speed) now has air intake, duals with no mufflers, 91 race tune, and pirelli tires and I'm telling you, I have never lost to a hemi other than the SRT. I am 3 for 3 with the 5.7 v8 chargers and unlike my dakota racing days, these guys were actually trying...

The best part is when they'd say "nice GT" and I'd say "hah, v6 buddy, I would stay away from the GTs if I were you "
