Re: new to mustang have 3.8 question

This is what I have done to my 98. It's no hot rod but runs 100% better.

UDP is an underdrive pulley...if you don't plan on supercharging then this is a good mod to do. It'll give you a few hp's.

simple bolt ons wont give you a huge noticable difference.. but there will be a difference. just lots of cash money. but you can see what i did- no regrets

Most people either get a cold air intake, exhaust, or udp's as their first mods. Trust me though, after you do a few of those, you'll want more.

Re: new to mustang have 3.8 question

Keep in mind the 94-98 v6's were single ports and the crank hp ratings were 145-150.
The 99-04's are split ports putting out 190-193.

You may want to consider a split port swap...it's not over the top to do and will give you a considerable boost in power. I would do this as long as you aren't considering a t-bird supercoupe m90 swap or something on that order where it's more beneficial to stay single port.

Re: new to mustang have 3.8 question

you can build a single port 3.8L motor to around 230rwhp-240rwhp if you do it right (stroke it to a 4.2L (quite easy as the 4.2 in the F150 is what you use parts wise)

the upper intake is too damn small for a N/A to be pushing out 230-240 RWHP, you're gonna have to custom make one or modify the one you have to hold more air. I personally wold just make one, and go with a 65mm TB opening. My upper is enlarged for a 60mm TB but it's still too small.

Re: new to mustang have 3.8 question

He wants to keep it simple, so I would suggest he stay with the single port.
