Yet Another Dual Exhaust Concern

Hey guys,

i'm new to this forum and was wondering what you though about putting a magnaflow dual exhuast kit on my V6.
i'm prepared to cut the valance...or pick up a GT bumper but am now pretty concerned since i heard that i may lose low end power.
i want the GT look and a meaner sound but am not prepared to give up any kick.

Thanks alot for any help!!!!

By the way, I ahve an AIRRAID colsd air intake installed

Thanks again

Re: Yet Another Dual Exhaust Concern

It will move up a bit in the power band, but its not that bad. If you stay with 2.25 inch exhaust you should shave a bit of time off of your car (6rwhp/tq worth) Its worth it in the end.

Pipes. Tips don't affect anything except the amount of ridicule you get if you go to big. The pipes are what will cause the back pressure that will help you keep your power. If they are too big, they will flow too much exhaust and you will lose power. There is a neat little line between too much and too little backpressure.

Tips do have a miniscule effect on sound.

Be very careful when choosing mufflers. Magnaflow makes 2 different sets for our car, one using Magnaflow mufflers and the other using Magnapack mufflers. Magnapacks are round, Magnaflows are oval shaped. The Magnapacks cause a very loud resonance inside the car, and at least one person here has changed them out because of that.
I have the Magnaflow mufflers on mine, with oval tips and it sounds great! Check my website out for more details and a sound clip.

And get the GT bumper. It'll look so much better.

I used to have magnapacks with an o/r x pipe, and it was still very quiet inside crusing, but were loud as hell at WOT this was on my GT btw.

I had mac flowpaths on my v6 and i loved them. but your best bet is to just listen to a couple different mufflers and go from there.

Re: Yet Another Dual Exhaust Concern

The magnaflow kit uses a double Y pipe, it is 2.5 in, so is the stock V6 entire exhaust system. The only advantage to a double Y pipe system is that there is very little chance you won't have enough back pressure, I have true duals on my V6 pony pkg, its not loosing any or very little if it is low end power. I think NONE. I am also running stock GT mufflers though, which also would have a little bit of back pressure.

Re: Yet Another Dual Exhaust Concern

I used to have dual magnapacks, then dual magnapacks with x pipe and now flowmasters with xpipe. I have sound clips off all three on my website. You might want to listen to them before you decide.

Also, here is a good sound clip thread for our cars:
