need some mufflers

ok here's the issue. I have side exit exhaust. the system had borla mufflers on it but it was way to quite and i removed them. but i need some sort of muffler as i have been pulled over by the highway patrol a few times. I was thinking about flowmaster 80's but I think it will kill my sound way to much.

anyone have any experince with SLP Loud Mouth Mufflers?

Re: need some mufflers

I've heard them on both v6's and v8's, and I have to say I didn't like them. Even on the v8's I think they sound raspy. I personally think they belong on GM cars, and that's it.

That's my opinion, you might want to listen to some youtube clips to get an idea of the sound.

Re: need some mufflers

Been looking on you tube and I will admit they sound very raspy. How ever I did come across some V6's with spintech mufflers. I really likd the way they sounded. I might go with those

Re: need some mufflers

Yah spintechs aren't bad. People have also claimed that they give you the most gains out of other mufflers. I remember another member on here claiming he saw umteen hp gained on a dyno...never actually saw a dyno sheet though iirc.

If you've got longtubes, I'd suggest flowmasters if you want an aggresive sound at low rmps. Watch out, though, they get really hight after about 3200 rpms.

Re: need some mufflers

SLPs are basically a muffler delete, they won't solve your problem, flowmaster 40s are good but if you are looking for something more afordable, jegs.com has something called a thrush muffler which is basically a flowmaster 40 but it's 32 bucks, they sound good

Re: need some mufflers

I forgot to ad that side exhaust Is a different ballgame entirely, things are twice as loud with half the pipe length, I had side exhaust with no mufflers for about an hour... Then i had it redone to full exhaust with no muffler, the volume difference is nuts, so flowmaster out the side is probably about as loud as SLP out the rear, I have been pulled over 4 times with my setup and have had no volume issues

Re: need some mufflers

I'm going to pull my flowmaster 40s off soon to go with a magnaflow catback..

The 40s just sound way too loud for me with the 4.6..

They sounded amazing on my 92 but I'm not digging it with my 01..

Re: need some mufflers

heres a picture of the exhuast set up i had before the mufflers were deleted.

In place of the mufflers is now a U bend pipe. so a tradtional muffler will not work. Magnaflow Borla Spintech and flowmaster sell the transverse mufflers I need. seems to me that flowmaster and spintech would be the best since they have no fiberglass to quite down the exhaast note. the flowmaster muffler is also larger then the spintech.

Borla Mufflers

No Mufflers

I don't like them on v6's, they're too high pitched for me, but on v8's they don't sound to bad. If I owned a GT or a Mach 1 I'd probably put Magnapacks on it, complete with an o/r h-pipe and longtubes to really piss people off

Are spintechs chambered? Chambered mufflers will sound the best on the v6's. I think you'll be fine with either one, especially since they'll work with the side exhaust.

From what I can tell the best way to descibe the spintech would be louver design. looks like there are no chambers of any kind like on a flowmaster or simular type muffler (cherry bomb, thrust, flowtec, etc) I could be wrong on the actull design type.
