Long tube mid pipe

After replacing my cracked exhaust manifold with shorty headers, the weld on the pre cat has cracked. It actualy just fell off going down the highway.
Well now I'm thinking about going with MAC LTs. Mac doesnt sell catted mid pipes anymore so im looking elswere. I've heard of people using a BBK shorty mid pipe for a GT but on American Muscle It list it as NOT LEGAL for emissions. I dont see any O2 sensor bungs on it either. So would anyone know if the SLP shorty mid pipe will fit? maybe with some minor bending?

Re: Long tube mid pipe

I have read somewhere but i can't remember where whatever brand of long tube headers you use you should use that brand mid pipe or it won't fit. I'm not sure if this is true but i'm sure you can take a different mid pipe and have a muffler shop modify it to work if it does not fit. Do you mean it doesn't have the holes for the o2 sensors?

Re: Long tube mid pipe

I think the picture was just a diferent year. Yeah in the pic theres no holes for o2 sensor and it also had an air tube. I at least need cats on my mid pipe we had the OBD2 scan for emisions and mac only has off road pipes now. Thats why im looking into alternatives.

Re: Long tube mid pipe

I know MAC products are odd in the way they fit with anything that's not MAC. The rep I talked to on the phone when I ordered mine told me they wouldn't bolt up to anything but MAC products and that's why I went with the H-Pipe.

Re: Long tube mid pipe

The BBK x-pipe will work with the Mac long tubes. The BBK mid pipe has to be pulled apart some( stretched )@ the collectors to work. The header collectors on the mac's are wider than the BBK mid pipes.

Your mother should have never ...ever...EVER EVER EVER EVER paid that. 20 bucks a bead is plenty. $100 including cutting the others out would be plenty enough labor money (plus the cost of mufflers).

Re: Long tube mid pipe

How much harder would you say LTs are to install VS shortys?

Depends on the set up you have & tools. The long tubes are harder but not much. ( only because the motor needs to be lifted a little ) If you have a rack to work with the L/T's aren't that bad to install. If work is the only factor in a decision between the two, L/T's all the way.

Re: Long tube mid pipe

Hardest part about the shortys was getting those damn 9-10 year old header bolts loose 9freaking hours of oil, torch and a long wrench to get them off. As well as connecting the midpipe. I used antiseize on the bolts so they should come out easy? and looks like the mid pipe will be easier to connect on LTs. How far does the motor have to be lifted 1-2 inches?
