Re: Cam

Before you buy anything, what exactly are you wanting to do with your car? Think about that before you spend your first dollar. After you've figured that out, consult this guide http://www.mustangevolution.com/forum/t5654/ .

Re: Cam

You can certainly do just a cam to get that aggressive lope (I'm guessing that's what your looking for), but the gains will be minimal. If you were to upgrade other internals in your engine head, upper/lower intake etc., you'd probably see more gains. I thought about doing the same thing for a while to get that aggressive idle, but decided I'd wait until I do more engine work.

The other thing to consider is once you start tearing into your engine like that, the chance of something failing/breaking increases slightly, it's just part of engine building. Getting the timing correct is important with the cam.

It can be done, you definitely can if you want to, but the power gains won't be as high as you expect, it'll be mainly for sound if you install the cam alone.

Re: Cam

thanks again everyone for your input. As of now i am a college student who has a craazy passion for mustangs and i want to build this one up slowly.. but right now i am just looking for that aggresive deeper tone. I plan in the future to do more engine work.. but this time im just going to do cam, bearings and lifters... Anyone have any suggestions about a nice big aftermarket cam for the 3.8?! Thanks again guys.

Re: Cam

You could look into Supersixmotorsports or Tom Morana Racing for a custom cam. I know they are big players in the v6 world.

I'm sure they'd get you situated with a nice lopey cam. Just tell them how aggressive you want it to be and they'll help determine the lift, duration, etc. I'm not sure which cams, but some may require you to get heavier valve springs. Another thing to consider.

Yah that would be ideal, you can do quite a bit with the engine out...but I think he said he wasn't going to dive into any serious projects like that at the moment.
