Re: Gears

Is it an auto or manual? Most people go with 4.10's in their automatics and 3.73's in their manuals.

Re: Gears

You'll lose a few mpg's when on the highway, but you'll accelerate quicker due to the gears. I would personally go with 3.73's.

I agree if its your daily driver keep it reasonable with 3.73.

Re: Gears

Yah if you're a manual go with 3.73's. 4.10's will be too tall if it's a dd. The mileage loss isn't that bad between the two, maybe 1mpg or so on the highway, but I'd still recommend 3.73's. You'll have a much stronger powerband over the stock gears.

You know, I was thinking about the differences between 3.73's and 4.10's.

Generally, the taller the gear, the more your top end will decrease while rpm's increase. 4.10's will cause your top end to decrease more than 3.73's or 3.55's. But I'd say that's only if you're pushing some considerable hp and reach higher top end speeds. (v6's are speed limited to 115) I wouldn't classify a near stock v6, nor a bolt on v6 at that level. So you would probably be fine with 4.10's in a manual. It might just help your top end. 1st gear might be tricky regarding wheelspin but you should be able to adjust. The loss in mpg's should only be around 1-2mpgs tops on the highway. I would say the performance benefit from the 4.10's would outweigh that slight loss in mpgs.

Either gear ratio, remember to have a tlok installed with the gears and have the car tuned afterward...so your speedometer is correct.

It was a big change for my car, but I went from 2.73 to 3.73. If I could do it over again I would go with the 4.10's if rpms & mileage isn't a factor for you. I turn 2650rpms @ 75mph. My gas mileage didn't change much on the highway. The car runs great but it begging for more gear. This my advice for an auto car. 5spd I still say 3.73.

Re: Gears

I've been told, altough I haven't yet personally confirmed that the 05+ T5 transmission has a smaller first gear. In order to compensate for the drop a lot of owners are going with a steeper rear axle gear, that is 4.10 over 3.73.

This may help a little as well
