| Brake Rotor Concern
After doing some research and in dire need of some new rotors/pads I went with EBC sport rotors. Part number GD7021 which are for slotted and dimpled rotors with a black anodized look and paired the rotors with EBC's Red Stuff pads. I read a lot of reviews and have heard nothing but good things and to top it off they were reasonably priced. My car is equipped with the Cobra front brake upgrade if your wondering. The car stops better than before with stock brakes, however the stock brembo rotors warped in less than a year and I really didn't feel like just having them resurfaced/turned. Regardless I opened the box today and found an imperfection. The right rotor is missing the little hub cover piece. You will see it in the pictures and do you think I should be concerned and return it or should I be ok? The first pick is the healthy left rotor, the 2nd the culprit, and the 3rd pic comparing the two.
thanks.

That's odd. I'd return it and get another one. I don't know too much about rotors and whether not having that piece would affect braking performance, but I'd play it safe and get one done right. Brakes aren't something I'd chance, lol.

take it easy on those, drilled rotors generally warp faster than OEM as they are drilled out not formed with the holes. Hopefully they will be ok, if you have any concerns send it back, you cant after you put it on the car. I dont see exactly whats missing, got a better pic/explanation?

Well they are not drilled....3 wide slots and dimples onl so less stress/ability to crack. The 3rd pic might show the difference best. On the rotor on the left you can see that it looks like a rougher surface surrounding the hub or central part of the rotor because its acutally missing the part that caps it. Make sense??...almost looks a little beige in color as compared to black.

Well got in contact with the manufacturer and they are sending me a new left passenger side rotor. Thanks for the help and I'll let you know about the install and how they feel in a later post.

post some more pictures of your rotors after a month or 2 two of drving. I want to see how that black holds up. A lot of aftermarket brakes have that gold look (stillen, power stop, brembo), but then turn back to silver after a while.

Well I installed them on Friday and it was a nice and easy install. 1 thing i noticed from the install was that there are extra tabs that come on some of the brake pads (little metal pieces), however they did not seem to interfere with the brakes themselves. I do however, need to get a new E clip for the pin that slides in and out to release the caliper from the rotor/anchor plate. Other than that the rotors and pads have been braking very well and smooth. They are loud almost like a hissing noise a snake makes, however EBC warns you of this. I can feel very smooth and improved braking even though I haven't broken them in all the way yet. Pictures to come. Ohh and the black coating is gone, however they are plated and will not rust. Looks great.

Good to hear
Mine do that hissing sound too. Must be a slotted/drilled or dimpled thing. My buddy was along side of me and said it sounded pretty cool, sounded like the brakes were really pushing some air...but now mine are squealing at stops, probably need some new anti-rattle clips. |

I always grease the hell out of my pads on any part that isn't touching the rotors. I use 1 packet of the anti-seize compound normally per wheel rather than 1 packet per axle. I don't know if that could be the issue, but just a thought.

Might have to give that a shot...they just started doing it and it really pisses me off. Nothing more embarassing than pulling up to a light or stop sign and hearing them screech and watch people turn and look.
I just painted the front calipers, maybe there's some dried paint causing it, though I figure that would dissipate due to heat.

Thanks ++. Ohh I am babying them nice and easy, but its such a smooth transistion minus the slightly increased noise, but well worth it.
