Exclamation getting ANGRY

I cannot get my 60' time to be under 2.6... I dId 3 runs today and they were ALL above 2.7, I even had a 2.83 in there, and I was running 15.4 in the 1/4. I have pirellis on bullet rims now and for some reason when I race someone on the street I can launch but when I'm being timed it seems to go out the window... How the heck are most people pulling 2.0 on street tires!? If I could get the launch right I know I would be in the low 14s...

Also, is it true that .1 shaved off of the 60' is worth .2 in the 1/4? I hope so... Lol

HELP!

Re: getting ANGRY

Are you going thru the water @ the track before your burn out. I find that if you avoid the water the street tires hook better. Also did you lower your tire pressure? The track conditions can affect it to.

Re: getting ANGRY

With my 555R's I still have to leave from a idle to prevent spinning. If you don't wont to buy new tires I would say practice. Try running about 22-25 psi in your rear tires and see if that helps.

Did you ride through the water and then not spin the water off?

and how hard are you launching?

Manual trans I take it?

focus on your launch to begin with, don't worry about reaction time - it doesn't add in to the time they give your car

Try revving to ~2500-3000 then when you're good to go, ride the clutch a bit, wait til the car's weight start's shifting, THEN at the same time ease onto the hammer and lift off the clutch, I've had really good luck like that.

ALSO watch where the fastest cars (the full out drag cars with slicks) are running, it's called 'the groove' its where there's the most rubber built up and best grip (It's not always dead center of the lane)

Re: getting ANGRY

Well I was actually doing this with a GPS device on an open road, did a few passes in each direction... I think it's just going to take practice... Thanks for all the info.

I did notice that the difference in my 1/4 mile times were exactly double the differences in my 60' times as I had heard earlier, so with a perfect 2.0 60' it would put me at 13.9 in the 1/4 based on my average runs, that makes me feel better. Now I just have to actually do it!

Re: getting ANGRY

2.0 isn't perfect lol last time I went to the track I ran a 1.98 on BFG RE760s with tire pressure @25 in each rear

Also had the rear koni's adjusted closer to 'soft' and the fronts as soft as I could get them (definitely helped with weight transfer and grip over the last time I'd gone couldn't get better than a 2.2 then)

Only ran 1/8th mile but ran an 8.7.. that should have me mid to high 13s at the track! Wish we had a 1/4 nearby with street nights

A tastefully modded 4.0 v6 stang could very easily see 1.8-1.9 60'.. potentially not on street tires but..

Heck I've gotten a 1.9 second 60' in my FWD v6 buick...

So pirellis aren't enough grip then, nitto 555s should help... If I can't hit under 2.0 with those its not meant to be... Lol, how'd you do that with front wheel drive?

Re: getting ANGRY

Pirellis are usually good tires!

It really depends on your launch, man.. I'd bet I could get a 2.1 at least in your car with one chance prior to see how it launched

Get to a track.. And see how it goes.. Plus you'll have fun at the track...

Re: getting ANGRY

You have to find what works for you, do not beat on the car until you get that 60ft time down as its worthless and just hurts the car without anything to show for it.

Some tracks SUCK its how it is, test different rpms etc. It sounds like you are coming off the clutch to fast or at to high of an rpm. Wait for the front end to raise to get on it fully. You dont have slicks so you cant dump the clutch and go WOT and hook up, not going to happen.

Re: getting ANGRY

On the street on street tires that's probably about all you're going to get. Never tried to 60 foot on the street to be honest because it's not worth the time. Even on drag radials I just blow them off in 1st.

That makes sense, the road isn't going to be cleaned and in the best condition... I'm also going to try to lower my PSI in the rears to about 28 or so, see how that works out

The V6 was the same way on street tires. Open diff with 275 width rear tires still wouldn't hook in 1st on the street. Track was slightly better.

My best at the track was a 1.9 in my WS6. That was on MT ET Street radials. They didn't spin, I just didn't have a loose enough converter to hit them hard enough to take advantage.

Yeah. 4L60E, specifically. Car had the 3.23 rear-gear. Corsa cat-back and SLP air-lid were all it had for modifications. Put 317 to the wheels. 8.56@84.78 was the best ET.

daaaamn, i thought the 4 speeds were supposed to be substantially slower than the 6 speeds? Doesn't sound like it... lol

For the record, I hit 2.1 today I have been launching hard at every redlight and stop sign I pass under 2 conditions: 1) no children present (mainly for the volume of muffler deletes) 2) no COPS present... or dirt on the road for that matter...

I keep dynolicious running on the iphone at all times now, lol!

I lowered my rear tire pressure from 38 PSI to 32, between that and everyone's advice, it has helped a lot... I wasn't able to run the full 1/4 since I was in a 35 zone and pretty much let off the gas as soon as I hit 35 so I think I can get my 60' even lower if the road permits.

YAY!
