want to do a 4.3 stroker

ive been thinking about doing a 4.3 stroker kit lately along with anything else i can do to get the most horsepower i can out of my motor before i do anything like a turbo. i was wondering what i can do and get and how much it would all be to get the maximum horsepower possible before a turbo. before i do all the engine work im soon buying a tuner, underdrive pulleys, 3.73 gears with a tloc, and shorty headers. i think thats it unless anyone else has any other ideas first before the motor work. so if anyone can help me out and let me know what i should do and get that would be great.

Re: want to do a 4.3 stroker

save your money on the "shorty" headers....if you gonna invest invest in headers you need to go long tube.....shorties are literally stock exhaust manifold just not all shiney lol, long tube will give u the performance and sound ur looking for!

Re: want to do a 4.3 stroker

equal length "tuned" shorties are just as good as long tube.

I think they only make them for the 4.0's, not 100% sure.

It depends. If you want a deeper sound at lower rpm's, longtubes are the way to go. If you're proud of your zipper, shorties all the way then.

Re: want to do a 4.3 stroker

i just want my mustang to sound better. i didnt know there was that much of a difference between shorty headers and long tube headers. but those long tube headers in that link werent for a 98 unless they would fit it. i would think it would but i would just wanna make sure.

Re: want to do a 4.3 stroker

I agree that long tubes sound better but the actual reason people put them on bigger motors back in the day was because they were actually cheaper.

They will fit your car, the only difference is the egr tube from the headers to the egr valve will need to be modified or deleted.

Re: want to do a 4.3 stroker

You probably can't, but an exhaust shop can for you. 98 was an odd year for headers. I'd just keep the stockers.

As for 'getting the most power out prior to a turbo'... a good turbo motor will be a low compression motor. Typically low comp motors don't make as much as they can N/A. The way you build them is different. If you are going turbo, just do right the first time.
