cold air intake

so i know cold air intakes can have a "whistle" to them, but is it usually very loud? and can you typically hear the air being sucked in? it doesnt sound "bad" or anything, but i just wanted to see how far from the norm i am. i made sure everything was tight and sealed up. the only spot i could think the whistle is coming from is where the MAF bolts up to the lower part of the intake... would some silicone seal stuff take care of that? thanks

Re: cold air intake

No the whistle can vary from one brand of CAI to another and even be different from car to car. I had a densecharger that whistled like a bastard and swapped to a MAC CAI and it quieted greatly. Then I installed the 60mm T/B the whistle and it is almost non existant now. But it could be the Big *** lopey cam and engine growl drown it out. HAHAHHA

Actually The whistle is caused by the size of the T/B more than anything.

Re: cold air intake

some cars do it some do not, but it seems to only do it at a given engine load or rpm~ my old car did it at an exact gas petal amount while not going to fast, i knew right where to make it do it, it wouldnt do it just free reving.

Re: cold air intake

It whistles just like you whistle with your lips. The CAI is wider than the T/B entrance. when you pull air into the engine it will create a whistle. You didn't hear it Now the differences is in the T/B or the CAI. My Densecharger whistled from idle to 2000 rpm. My MAC is barely audible except at 1500 to 1800 rpm.

Re: cold air intake

I have a cheap E-Bay CIA and it whistles quite a bit, especially when I first start the car and when I accelerate.

Re: cold air intake

has anyone tried using a straight shot cai??

i have seen them for a few different year models, but not for the 96-98 v6 models yet. maybe someone else knows where to find them.
