Question FUSE SET UP

Does anyone have a 96 mustang ( I dont knwo if the fuse set up is different on years or not..) I believe from what some guys on here have told me my fuse for my cruise control might be what is causing it not to work....well it could be other things but I am gonna check the "little" things first....neway does anyone have the number of the fuse that goes for the cruise control? I dont have an owners manual and I dont want to go spend the $30 bux right now for one when all it could be is the fuse....ne help would be much appreciated...

Re: FUSE SET UP

u could get a hayne manual from a auto store for i think 18 dollars that has all that in it or u could get under the steering wheel and check all the fuses and the ones under the hood and see if any are blown or corroded....might be a good thing ti check anyway to prevent future problems

Re: FUSE SET UP

went to autozone..looked into a manula and it had jack crap in it for fuses....it didnt even say anything about where or what fuses are what...im lost...i think the fuse box under my dash on my driver side had the fuse ( #15) in it for my cruise control but I want to make sure.....would it be a bad idea to just go ahead and get ALL new fuses?

Re: FUSE SET UP

ok this is out of my manual, should be the exact same though.

Does anything else not work besides your cruise control? Clock maybe?

Heres what the fuse box looks like under there:

Heres the list of what does what:

Re: FUSE SET UP

The fuse is more than likely the problem... lights on your instrument panel (if youre referring to the guages) are just burnt out lights. You can remove the guage cluster and replace those bulbs.

Re: FUSE SET UP

Remove the pod bezel then remove the four torx headed screws that hold the dash bezel in place, remove the two wiring harnesses connected to it - then carefully lift the pod out of the dash.
Do a search for mustang pod install you should find one with pictures something like http://www.egauges.com/pdf/AutoMeter/824b.pdf

Re: FUSE SET UP

its really not hard... if you cant do it take it somewhere that can, it shouldnt be too expensive as it takes about 5 minutes to remove the guages.

Would I have to remove my steering wheel before I do all this or not?

Re: FUSE SET UP

No the only hard part is getting the headlight knob off If you look at the knob you'll see a opening with a metal tab use a bent nail to push the tab down & pull the knob off ,2 screws hold the bezel on remove them and then remove the 4 torx headed holding the gauge pod in pull it out & disconnect the 2 wiring haress connection It's a very straight forward process

Re: FUSE SET UP

Did you check to see if it blew the fuse again? If it did, there may be a short somewhere. I remember I was driving once with my cruise control on, and I turned the a/c on, and it blew the fuse because my a/c clutch assembly and pulley were shorting out the a/c system. The a/c clutch, cruise control, and clock all run on the same fuse...

If its blown now, try replacing the fuse, making sure your heater and a/c are all "OFF" and then see if the cruise control works. If it does, leave the cruise control on, and switch your a/c on and see if that causes your clock and cruise control to go off. If it does, theres a problem in your a/c circuit somewhere and thats whats blowing the fuse. Try that and get back to me.
