Re: P0301 engine code

This is my theory based on my research.1999-2000 Mustang 3.8L Valve covers allow excess oil to pass into intake manifold through the PCV valve causing excess carbon build up in combustion chambers especially #6 & #3.This leads to pre ignition of 87 octane fuel possibly causing misfire codes. Also engine hesitates and engine rattles when accelerating and climbing.2001 valve cover should reduce the oil intake problem.decarbonize the engine with seafoam or BG 44k and possibly run higher octane should fix the problem.I'm trying this solution first. After I smog my car I'll add an inline oil seperator on the PCV to eliminate oil feedback. Also,I lose about a quart of oil every 500-750 miles.Any Ford techs think this maybe a cause?

I have this same issue. Did you ever get an definate answer? Also how do you "decarbonize" an engine?

Injector is the only thing left that you havent checked. Possible. I've seen intake gaskets also cause this. If all else fails, get a compression test done.

Re: P0301 engine code

seafoam (available at autozone and the like) can be used to clean carbon deposits out of the motor. You can put it in oil, vacuum system, and gas etc etc

Re: P0301 engine code

I've put Sea Foam in the fuel tank, I think I heard you can put it in the brake booster vaccum line to clean the engine, but I'm not sure.

You can also just pour about half a can straight into the oil about 200-250 miles before an oil change. I usually do that every 3 or 4 changes.
