drop it lowww

i can't stand my V6's stance any longer!

what are some good lowering springs to get? i had a set about a year ago, can't remember what kind/brand... got the two installed in the rear but lost one of the springs for the front... thats a pretty funny story... and now that i've had to replace the front shocks my car looks pretty rediculous.. made me realize how bad my shocks really were...

i wanna get her pretty low.. if i'm gonna spend the money i want it to show. running 18in chrome bullitts and i'm unsure of tire size, but they need to be replaced soon so i can play with the tire size if needed. and hopefully ordering a chin spoiler with the springs so she has a mean grin to her.

soo i know plenty of you guys have lowering springs. what kind did you use/how satisfied are you/how low can you goooo??

thx

Most guys on here are going with h&r. I'm pretty sure spectorv is using em and he has a nice looking drop.

Re: drop it lowww

When you do drop go with maximum motorsports caster camber plates. Everyone that i know that has dropped uses them and I have never heard a complaint

Re: drop it lowww

you can go with ford racing C springs and cut some off them (its ok to do this on these springs but it must be done with a cut off wheel)

You can tinker till you find the "sweet spot" this is going to be for looks and a stiffer ride but not the BEST handling... technically the BEST handling is found when the A Arms are around even with the K member aka about 1.25 inches of drop.

Re: drop it lowww

thats the springs i had the FR C springs. and still do in the rear...

i find it pretty much impossible to get just the front springs without the rear... don't think i'll ever get lucky enough to find someone getting rid of half the set... lol

well, i will def. consider the advice and shop around. i'll let you guys know what i go with and of course post some pics when possible. thx for all the input so far!

Re: drop it lowww

Here's my old V6 with C springs. 1/2 coil cut front, 3/4 in rear if I remember correctly. May be the other way around...

H&R Race springs on the cobra, I'm not 100% sure how the springs would drop a V6 however, I love the stance though. No upper iso on front, both on the rear.

Re: drop it lowww

Here are some specs for you (I'm guessing a coupe?) on the H&R and Eibach Springs. I don't have the FRPP numbers:

H&R
96-04 (V6 or V8)
Sport : 1.6 Front / 1.5 Rear
Super Sport : 1.75 Front / 1.6 Rear
Race : (1.0-1.75) Front / (.75-1.25) Rear

Eibach
94-04 V6
Pro-kit : 1.5 Front / 1.5 Rear
Sportline : 1.7 Front / 1.5 Rear (this is for a convertible. I did not find a listing for a coupe)

And as mentioned above, CC plates will help get a lowered car back in align. You might get by without them for a Sport or Pro-kit (I've seen it vary by car), but usually once you go beyond 1.25 to 1.5 drop in the front, you'll want the CC plates to get it back into spec.

Re: drop it lowww

I have Eibach Sportline Springs on my 01 and love them handling is amazing and the stance looks awesome. The only downside to these is scraping of exhaust, you have to be careful of speed bumps and entrances to some parking lots. Have to do a lot of creeping over lol. Lowers 2" in front and 1.5" in rear and are fairly cheap($225 w/ free shipping). Scroll down and look for 062.
Thats with 17" with 245/45 tires, 45 being the size of the sidewalls.

I'm curious. Do you know the part# for the Eibach sportlines you put on your coupe? My catalog does not have a listing for the coupe (which is weird)

Re: drop it lowww

make sure you know the spring rate. Stock is generally around 400lbs front 250rear~ and when you get new ones go around there for a stock like ride (progressive rate springs ride better generally as the rate can be higher and normal riding is softer) if you want more handling go wtih a 600 at least spring etc etc.

Mine are 720 front (H&R race) and the progressive nature with the IRS it rides quite well.

IDK the part # cause i got them about 4 years ago but i posted a link early in the thread of a place where you can get them. Just look at the non-IRS cause the IRS is for the cobras.

Re: drop it lowww

lol no i usually only scrap at the cats, cause its only lowered 1.5" in the rear. If you creep speed bumps and entrances you wont have problems, plus the handling and traction is worth it.

Re: drop it lowww

I can't stand the stock v6 stance either...but when I do lower it, I'll be swapping out springs, shocks, struts and cc plates, so it's gonna cost quite a bit.

If you want a noticeable drop I'd go with either H&R Super Sports or Eibach Sportlines as said in the earlier posts. I'll probably go thru John at NQS for the Super Sports and Maximum Motorsports CC plates since I want a larger drop. MM CC plates are the ****...I've heard nothing but good things about them too.

I'd definitely consider replacing the shocks(rear) and struts(front) when doing the springs. Your stock ones are probably worn out if you have higher mileage, and you'll want aftermarket shocks/struts to match the new spring rate. Not doing so when lowering the car 1.5-2" will wear the stock shocks/struts out real quick.

Either way lowering the stang makes it a new breed of animal...definitely keep us updated and post pics when you get it done.

When I did the drop on my V6 I went with the ford racing "bullitt suspension kit" with C springs. It came with shocks/struts, springs, front and rear sway bars. I added a set of mm caster/camber plates and I think the shocks/struts were replaced around 90k later.

I will add, however, the H&R springs on my cobra ride a ton better than the C springs did. Some of it may be attributed to the car and weight, but it's still a ton better than the cut c springs.

Yah I thought about buying the bullit kit, basically comes with everything you need. I figured I'd either cut the c-springs or sell them and get H&R's SS's plus the cc plates. IIRC, the shocks/struts in that package are tokicos, so they should work with the change in spring rate.

Yah you can, but you will wear out your shocks and struts way quicker. People have done it quite a bit and the car's do look good, but it's not the "best" way to go about lowering the car.

If you do it, cut the damn things with a saw or cutting wheel. Don't heat them up, worst thing you can do.

The stock springs are not designed to be cut. By cutting the stock springs you will end up with a very spongy ride that will bounce everywhere.

If you are looking to save money by cutting springs you will hate yourself in the future when you end up buying a new set of springs anyway.

Theres too much space between the wheels and the body. I'd like to get around to that one day. Hopefully soon. I'm not sure how much longer I want to keep it. I've been debating about going to a newer GT 5speed tired of automatic's for now. (07,08-09, maybe a '10 V6 coupe). Then again an SUV,or Truck in addition to the Mustang would be nice.

Should buy an older v8 or v6 car and the truck. You can pick up 94-04 v8 cars (including n/a cobras) for pretty cheap these days. May not be as "new" as what you have now, but it'll have the sound and be a 5spd.

Yah it's better to do it right and not hurt the car in the long run.
