eec fuse blown ? car dead

Hello and please help.
1996 V-6 auto.
Recently I had a rebuilt engine installed. a few months later the car dies while driving,.. actually it was snowing ,I have two kids that wanted dad to do a doughnut in the snow,.. I did,.. smelled burnt wires then a few blocks later it dies. checking the engine compartment fuse block, I found the fuse for eec is blown. Changed the fuse and it blows imediately when the key is turned on. But,.. not knowing much at all about computers in cars,... I do not know where to go from here.

Not much of an electronics geek as some guys around here, but maybe you have a bad ground wire? I don't know. Either way, welcome to the site, I am sure someone who knows more about these things will set you strait.

sounds like there is a short in the system blowing that fuse everytime power is put to it. I would try to trace the wires and see if you can find where the damage is and repair it. It may be a job for a shop to look at. See if you can find the problem via the engine bay and looking under the dash. Follow your nose if you can still smell the burning wires.

There is a fuse panel in the engine bay behind the battery and under the drivers side dash near to the door.

Follow the harness from the fuse box to the EEC.
Look for any signs of any wires rubbing or burnt.

It does kinda sound like something is shorting out somewhere. I'd check the grommet where the ECU wires come through the firewall, in cars that are starting to age you're bound to tear up a grommet and cut a wire at some point.
