Engine Question

Ok so, I have been eyeing the 4.2 conversion/split port swap for my mustang since the day I bought her about 4 months ago. (Just waiting for summer to give me the time to do it all) And I have been browsing craigslist and ebay and other such possible engine obtaining sources and noticed a Chevy 4.3 for sale ($600, good price!) but figured I would ask to see it that would also fit in the 98 model I have or if it would be a much larger hassle to swap or just wouldn't fit at all. Any info, suggestions, shopping lists, or tips you guys have are all more than welcome! Yall have been very helpful and entertaining so far and I thank you so!

PS: The write-up for this is definitely going into the V6 mag that im just waiting for enough material to be publishment worthy.

Re: Engine Question

WAY WAY WAY more work to try to fit a chevy engine in there. The 4.2 and 3.8 use the same block so all the bolts will line up for the transmission. WAY less hassle

Re: Engine Question

Awesome! Thank you for that, I will avoid the Chevy engine. Figured I would look into it at least. I see you have done the 4.2 swap, any advice? How long did it take you? Thank you again for your help!

Re: Engine Question

All you gotta do is swap the cranks. But while your in there you should get new bearings and I'm not sure what your compression will be but if its low you can get some pistons to bring it up. Maybe some flat tops. And you should probably go ahead and replace the rings. (you don't have to do that extra stuff but its just a good idea to do it while your in there)

Try that and let me know how it goes.

You also need pistons.
