rear seat delete kit

whats up. i guess this is pretty random but. today me and a friend made a rear seat delete kit for his 96 GT. used cardboard to get a rough outline out of seat & back and kept shaping it up until it was close to perfect. traced it on to some light weight wood and covered it in black cloth. im also going to do this for my car.

just giving people ideas! an easy project and is cheap

Re: rear seat delete kit

Ive heard that the rear seat had a brace in it that helped stiffen the chassis. Wouldnt removing this be bad?

Re: rear seat delete kit

the wood we used for my friends was so light, would def crack inhalf if someone sat on it. i will take pictures when i finish making mine, which would be awhile since im in so rush. or if i hang with my friend anytime soon ill take a few of his..

Re: rear seat delete kit

There is no real bracing (in a coupe at least) from the rear seat other than just what is gained by having it bolted in~ the top of the back seat is where the weight comes from, the bottom is very light.

Re: rear seat delete kit

I donno i just heard something about it bracing the chassis and a steel plate to prevent the gas tank from coming thru in event of a rear end colision.

Re: rear seat delete kit

the gas tank on 94-04 is under the car not under the back seat like 05+~ but you bring up a good point~ but think about it like this... how sturdy is the back seat when the seats fold down with ease~ wont take much to break that and push the seats down in an accident~ its not but 50lbs either way so not really that big of a deal.

Re: rear seat delete kit

Cool dude. If it looks good and is lightweight, that beats paying $100+ for one.
