that one will NOT work with the stock axles. the stock 8.8 comes equipped with 28 spline axles and that one is for 31 spline axles. to get it to work, you would need upgraded axles which you shouldnt really need unless youre putting down serious power.

Re: LOK question

is your 8.8 not coming with a differential? it already has a limited slip differential in it from the factory. you could just rebuild it as well.

Re: LOK question

you need a 7.5 inch Tlok or Aurburn differential. its a GREAT idea to install one while you do gears as its the same amount of work (pretty much) since the stock unit has to come out and the ring gear has to be removed from it so.... just stick the new one on the table for reassembly lol, shouldnt be but like 25 bucks extra to install a new tlok as they have to double check shimming it.

Re: LOK question

If you have any HP you will need to upgrade to the 8.8. Otherwise the 7.5 will do fine.

Re: LOK question

yea 7.5 is mostly fine up to around 300rwhp~ but it doesnt take much at any hp level if the conditions are right to snap a spider gear in the rear end (auburn diff's are better for this reason) as the spider gears is the weak link in the 7.5 rear end.

But he already has the 8.8. Those already come with a t-lok right? No need to upgrade to 31 spline axles and a 31 spline t-lok.

Re: LOK question

ah you are correct, I missed that... I saw V6 and though 7.5 as thats what they all have stock~ yea no need to upgrade anything bug gears, I would go ford racing NOT motive/etc as other brands can whine. ONLY let someone install that knows what they are doing else you may end up with whine that they say is "normal"... thats BS.

yes definately go ford racing. i did motive because they no longer have ford racing for the 7.5 and there was no whine. but it is better to do the rear end the right way the first time. also, make sure the axles are straight, bearings are good, and that the differential doesnt need to be rebuilt. you dont want to have pay for the work to be done twice.

Re: LOK question

Yah the 8.8" comes with the 28 spline tlok from the factory...I am 100% confident that the unit you're buying has the tlok in it. You probably won't need 31 spline axles or a 31 spline differential. There are plenty of high hp/tq v8 guys using the 28 spline stuff and having no problems.

As said, you could upgrade to taller gears. Just make sure you order gears for an 8.8" rear. I do believe you can still get 8.8" gears from Ford Racing, the 7.5" you cannot.

Re: LOK question

Can you reuse the same drive shaft when switching to 8.8 from 7.5?

I believe you can. You might need to change the yoke or the parts where it connects.

Re: LOK question

Just make sure if you do take the driveshaft off, mark the bottom of it (probably the front near the transmission), as well as the bottom of the extension housing of the transmission with a sharpie or heavy duty marker so you know the correct placement when re-instaling it.

Re: LOK question

Yep ill take pics no worries. The drive shaft works with the 8.8, i just need to buy a flange. Once i get my body kit on and exhaust finished. I should be ready to tackle the Rear end swap.

Waiting for damn parts is brutal. Also working 24 out of 30 days a month makes it so hard to finish things.
