Road to Forced induction

Alright just a few questions, I recently installed a CAI system, im wondering first of all if I wasted my money because I decided to go Supercharged.

Secondly, im wondering about exhaust. Im not sure whether to go 2.25 on the diameter or 2.5 because there might be a little lag between getting my exhaust setup and going forced. If I go 2.5 and don't get supercharged right away, am I giving away alot of HP until i get it done?

Thirdly im wondering about other engine prep-work prior to supercharging, stuff that will prevent me from exploding or ****ing up the car. Suspension? Anything you guys can throw at me.

Fourth, im about to purchase my posi trac and gears, im literally about to place the order in the next few days is the Eaton-posi going to hold up to forced induction or should I go Detroit locker?

Thanks in advance.

1. yes
2. You will be losing some bottom end power going with the larger exhaust
3. Depending on what your goal for the car is there are several things you can do. Number 1 would be to rebuild the engine with internals that can handle more power without messing up. You will be able to push a fairly decent amount of power through the stock engine, but it can and most likely will mess up if you start pushing the power level up.
Suspension is also a very good place to work on in the mustangs. It does you no good to have 500 hp if you can never go anywhere. A good suspension is just as important as a built engine.
4. If you plan on doing alot of track runs running dr's or slicks then you might want to look into buying a 8.8 rear end from a gt because it is able to handle the power much better without messing up.

Re: Road to Forced induction

You can always sell the CAI to recoup some of your money.

Go ahead and get the 2.5 right away, I won't say you lose horsepower, you just move it further up in the RPM range. I've had 2.25, 2.5 and now have the 3". Get teh 2.5 now and don't worry about till you reach about 500 when you would need 3".

Lowflyn did a good job here.

If you have an auto, you can build the 7.5 for some power. If you have a stick go straight to an 8.8 if you can find one at a good price.

Re: Road to Forced induction

if your worried about losing 100~ bucks from a cai then you might not should spend 4k+ for a blower (to do it RIGHT)

supercharged cars come with more upkeep, if you cant afford to risk blowing up the motor/tranny/etc then you shouldnt put yourself in the position of it happening. Overall many have had great response from power to reliability on their mustangs with superchargers. You just have to buy good items and have a GREAT dyno tune (most important part) off the shelf tunes that come with the superchargers are a waste.

I wasn't worried abou the loss of money on the CAI, it just would have been nice to keep it on...

How the hell do you figure the same price? I haven't gone to turbo for the fact it cost more then a supercharger does plus I hate turboes on the street.

Re: Road to Forced induction

Like Spec said, turbo can be had for about 4k for everything. What's wrong with a properly sized turbo for the street? More power per PSI too...
