Where to begin

I am going to start modding my car little by little. 1st thing I did was tint the windows, i had to being from TX. I don't know what to do next. I was thinking about getting a cold air intake, as a buddy of mine said that would be a good start before i get a new exhaust and what not. Now, I know nothing about cars, and i see you guys talking up a storm and you all seems well versed in this stuff, so any help would be much appreciated

Re: Where to begin

No problem. Most people start out with a CAI or some UDPs. Also, a tuner is always a great choice.

Re: Where to begin

You should sit down and decide what your ultimate goals are. If I had done that with my GT... I might have left it stock and when it was paid off... bought myself a Terminator. Would've been the same cost as the GT + mods.

Re: Where to begin

yea, it depends on what you want to end up with. Dont dump money into something just to "pass the time" as you wont get that money back out of it.

If you dont mind buying a supercharger to reach 300rwhp+ or building the motor to reach 220-240rwhp without a supercharger/poweradder the v6 can do it.

Re: Where to begin

the thing is, i don't want to go too crazy with it, because im going to eventually get a Shelby. I will keep the car though, as an every day car.

Re: Where to begin

Then mod it mildly. A good CAI and a tuner should suffice. It'l net you anywhere from 3-9 hp if the tune is good.

If you plan on selling it to get another car... only cheap mods. Save the expensive stuff for the Shelby

Re: Where to begin

yea mod it so that you keep overall reliability, like lower it, wheels/tires, exhaust, maybe some updates to the looks~ nothing crazy.

A CAI can help gas mileage and sound a bit and are generally cheap

Re: Where to begin

Yeah i agree with delta, cai, and tuner. That will give u a little more kick. Get some rims and possibly lower it and itll be a nice reliable everyday driver.

Re: Where to begin

Yah if you want to keep the car as a dd, do mostly cosmetic mods and some mild performance mods. As said, exhaust, CAI, udp's (since you won't be supercharging), a tune, maybe gears/tlok if you're ambitious...a tune is necessary if you do the gears/tlok to adjust your speedometer.

My 03 has been my primary vehicle since 2005, so I haven't done much peformance wise - CAI and exhaust. Most of my mods are cosmetic inside and out...once I get another vehicle as a dd/backup, I'll consider doing more serious stuff.

Once you get that shelby, you might find you'll want to spend the money on that, so decide whether you want go crazy on your current car.

Re: Where to begin

if youre planning on keeping the car as a dd, there is nothing wrong with doing a few things here and there. do a cheap cai and catback. if you can install headers, go with some longtubes and an o/r h. otherwise labor can get expensive on those. you could also do the rims and a gt hood and side scoops to dress it up some. im glad i havent done a h/c/i swap or supercharger for mine as that is money saved for my shelby in the future.

Re: Where to begin

i just saw you had a 2010. forget the scoops then. in fact, i wouldnt really touch the car. especially since you will actually be able to trade it in eventually. a tuner would be good since you could just transfer that over to the next vehicle. not the actual tunes of course. i was thinking you had a car like mine that isnt worth anything to begin with anymore.
