1996 Mustang P1443 Evaporative Emissions (EVAP) Canister Purge (CP) Valve

Can anyone tell me where the Evaporative Emissions (EVAP) Canister Purge (CP) Valve is on my 1996 Mustang. I am getting an error code, P1443 checked online and that is what she told me.

Which firmware do you have on your tuner? That is where the initial problem with data logging comes from. Then there was an iffy version of the live link on top of that. I had the same problem and can no log no problem since i updated my live link to the current as well as my tuner to the latest firmware.

I use that version every day to tune cars, it does have its quirks but I don't have a problem most of the time (and I have to rely on it, otherwise I can't tune cars properly). I primarily use on PC logging though, not on device.

The canister is in the drivers side front fenderwell, and I think all the valves are back next to or above the tank.

Those are the versions I used also. It does have a few problems but otherwise I didn't have too much trouble.

Re: 1996 Mustang P1443 Evaporative Emissions (EVAP) Canister Purge (CP) Valve

After a little researching I came across this:

Quote:
DTC P1443 indicates a mechanical fault in the Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Purge Flow System. Nine times out of ten this code is due to a loose gas cap. So that would be the first thing to check.

The other things you can look for are pinched, plugged, blocked, cracked, cut or disconnected vapor hoses between the fuel tank and carbon canister. Check for a cracked or broken carbon canister or fitting(s).

Other than that, you will need a scan tool to check the EVAP valves, sensors and electrical wiring.

Normally the code for the gas cap is like P0404 or soemthing like that, and it never says anything about the cannister at all. I guess it could still be a bad cap possibly letting evaporated gas fumes through, but I doubt that with that particular code...

I honestly don't know.. if I could picture where it was on your car I could offer you more help.. but getting the canister vent off can be a PITA if you live in a corrosive area.. (near salt water?)

I need to know what it is I need to buy to fix this. If it is the Evaporative Emissions (EVAP) Canister Purge (CP) Valve how much will it cost to replace it (just buying whatever I need to do the job) and what exactly is involved with replacing it?

Alright I narrowed it down to the control valve being the problem.

Anyone care to take a picture of where this is on a 96 V6? All the info seems to lead me to 5.0 pictures and the Haynes manual only shows the 4.6

Consider you live in Alabama...

And it's an Evaporative Emissions Canister Purge Valve...

You rip it out and throw it in the nearest trash can.

Man I would if I knew where the hell the thing is and what all is involved in removing it so my car runs right.

I'm assuming you've found it since it's been awhile, but I actually know the answer to this one and I figured I'd post an answer for future questioners.

I just pulled off a random part (cracked lines needing replacing) and discovered that this lovely part (9C915) is in front of/under the AC dryer (big, black canister attached to the wall) next to the firewall on the passenger side. It was almost in my way when I was taking off the dryer support clamp. It's got a tube coming in the top on one side towards the wheel and another tube heading the other way...and an electrical connector on the bottom. It's just a cylinder with a black rubber sleeve around it, about 2.5 inches long and 1.5 across.

One of the hoses leads to a black box that the pictures call the "EVAP canister" that is under the passenger front fender near the door hinge. If you take off the fender bolts (1 behind the turn signal and 3 on the top) you can pry the fender back enough to get your hand in there to the canister...though you might bend the 2 bolt mounts that are behind the door hinges...or you could take the whole fender off, but those last two bolts are a serious pain to get off (at least I've found them to be so.)

Got the same problem-what was the outcome? My research also shows a purge flow sensor could fail.

Re: 1996 Mustang P1443 Evaporative Emissions (EVAP) Canister Purge (CP) Valve

I have a 1996 3.8 mustang and throwing codes p1443 and missing/hestitating on acceleration. It seems there are a lot of parts to go into this evap emissions code. Guessing that I am a female I do not really know what parts could be involved trying to find the definite problem with this code. The lady at Advanced auto parts said the only place that sold parts for this code was the dealer. If I could figure out what part was bad and just buy the part that would be better so I could do it myself
