What are your opinions...

My goals for my stang are to create a high speed running car that will be able to do high top speeds. I was wondering what you all think should go into making this a possibility. I know that I am going to have to be making some big power so an engine build with a turbo is a definite, along with the suspension and of course way better brakes to stop! Just looking for some opinions. Thanks

Re: What are your opinions...

My roommate has a VW that he is working on that he has gotten to 140. My friend Juan has a Supra that hits 180. I wouldnt mind topping at 150-160 but thats after a lot of work. I just want to have a car that will pull hard to the highest speed I can get and give them a run as well. I know that having longer gears up at 4th and 5th would be good, but finding a 6speed tranny is an option down the road.

Re: What are your opinions...

For high speed you need to start sinking some heavy money into your suspension. Full MM front end with all the goodies, subframes, and go with the complete MM rear suspension for a GT or you could snag an IRS to use. Then you'll need to get some power to the wheels to allow you to get to that speed faster, so a built block and whatever poweradder of your choice.

Oh, and with my limited mods I was able to hit 147mph on the back straightway at a track. I wouldn't recommend doing that though, as it nearly got me banned from that track.

Re: What are your opinions...

Actually if you are wanting high speed for land racing you dont need any of the above parts. You wont need a IRS or a MM front end or a 8.8 rearend. Weight is not exactly the big enemy it is drag racing. What you will need is a wicked gear ratio. I have had a 2.08 ring and pinion gear for high speeds on the flats. I am building a second quick change rear end. I have also designed custom plugs for all the front openings in the bumper. They are foam incapsulated resin parts to exact fit. Some lightening might come in handy but at 150 + mph weight can have an advantage. You will also want a greater front rake on your car as air underneath it causes real drag and instability. You might want more power and there is a world of different options, for me I went high power N/A.

Re: What are your opinions...

wont be fun around the town if you just do it for high speed and not all around fun, plus you will do stupid high speed runs and either get some major tickets or kill yourself.
