clutch is noisy

98 3.8 v6 mustang, when I push in the clutch I hear loud squealing noise. When clutch is engaged there seems to be no slippage and no noise. Please help

Re: clutch is noisy

I want to say it's likely your pilot bearing (the bearing in your crankshaft, that the nose of your input shaft rides in) when the clutch pedal is depressed, the bearing spins around the nose while the nose stays stationary..

in other applications, like clutch out, vehicle in neutral - or vehicle in gear, the input shaft and crankshaft spin at the same speed

Throwout bearing you'd mostly hear when pushing in the clutch pedal/ releasing the clutch pedal any time the engine is spinning, that tends to be more of a ratchety/grinding sound, though..

Re: clutch is noisy

if you take the transmission out to fix this replace it all (its cheap parts anyway)

resurface (inspect to make sure you can) flywheel (if not replace)
pilot bearing
throwout bearing
inspect fork arm/pivot ball stud for wear replace as needed
pressure plate/clutch disk
check tolerance on input shaft play adjust as needed
basically a full clutch job with bearings and inspection of the parts

finish off with fresh trans fluid and you should be good to go.

its pretty easy to get the transmission out of your car as it can be removed from the bellhousing via 4 bolts.
