Exclamation I need your opinion, what would you do?

So my beloved 99' Mustang v6 is dead.(shot engine)
It got overheated and my engine is ruined, to put it simply.
I have two choices:
1) My mechanic friend can put a 2003 v6 mustang engine in it to replace the old one for $1400 total or
2) My uncle said when you overheat your engine it doesnt matter because you've overheated your tranny and it will give out too eventually. (he's had the same exact expirience with is old camero put a new engine, month later the tranny gave out)
So what would you guys do?? I love my car but replacing my engine and possibly the tranny is...a problem.
I can afford it, but is it worth it?
Please answer even a yes or no would do.
What would you guys do? keep it or a newer car?

Re: I need your opinion, what would you do?

I can tell you for sure that just because the engine overheated that has nothing to do with transmission. I have been working on cars all my life for a living and have never had an engine that overheated cause the transmission to go out. What happened to your uncle was just bad timing.

If I were in your shoes and didn't have the money to get a newer mustang I would just replace the engine. But this would depend on the miles on your car and the miles on the engine that you would be putting on your car. If they are both high mileage if may be better in the long run to just bit the bullit and get another car. As more parts will fail and the car may become a money pit.

Re: I need your opinion, what would you do?

you can buy a 3.8 engine for CHEAP, very cheap you can pick one up at a pull a part place and get a friend and go to town and get that sucker out and home in no time. That would save you some money probably, you would only have to pay for install (500-1000 bucks)

then sell the car for way more than you could with no engine running.

One V8 can weigh 4 times as much as another.

X 3.. I'm not sure about the weight issue unless he put in a different engine. As in a new one that was from a different model, or year and was a lot heavier etc. There are some people on here who have put in new engines and have had no problems with the transmissions dying. Also look at the miles and shape of the body. If everything is in good shape and you want a newer Mustang drop the engine in clean it up and sell it. You will get your money out of it.

The weight of an engine has nothing to do with it going out. Now if the trans had a lot of miles and the new engine had a lot more power than the old one. That could cause it to go out. But that's common. If something is rated for 200 lbs of tq and it's already worn and then you put 400 lbs of tq with do you think is going to happen?
