tach problem

the needle on my tach has been jumping bad lately. not to higher numbers, but jumping between working and not working. sometimes it wont work for quite awhile but if i hit a hard bump, bass from my music hits hard, or i tap on the instrument cluster cover it will go back to working. sometimes too it wont always go to "0" when it isnt working. it will go down but not all the way.

do i need to get a new /or used instrument cluster or could there just be something wrong with the needle. ive had my local shop check it out and they think i need to get the new/or used cluster but i dont really want to.

Re: tach problem

You either have a shorted wire or the needle on the tach is hanging. Either way, it should be simple to fix without swapping out the entire instrument cluster.

Re: tach problem

I really don't think adding an overlay will help any. What you could do, however, is take the cluster out of the car and set the needle out a little further by using a needle puller. This may keep it from hanging up.
