upgraded gears and a diff. whine

Professionally intalled in a 7.5 rear manual tranny, 373 trac loc with motive pinion and ford racing ring gears. Drove approx. 800 miles then had the diff serviced to remove an annoying whine. After the service the whine has been lessened, but still noticeable. Is this something that I have to live with?

Re: upgraded gears and a diff. whine

its from the installation not being correct in some form or fashion, once the gears have wore their pattern there are limits to how "fixed" it can be. Some have to buy new gears. Also, some say Motive whine more than ford racing~ and different metal compositions do make more noise~ I am not saying the installer didnt know what he/she was doing but... most of the time its installation error of some sort or tolerances not in check.

If you happen to have a ton of suspension upgrades (removal of rubber bushings etc) noise travels easier and is louder also~

Re: upgraded gears and a diff. whine

They only make Motive pinion gears for 7.5. But, I'll take it back to the installer thank you for your response.

Re: upgraded gears and a diff. whine

ford makes 7.5, perhaps not anymore but they do exists as I had ford racing gears put in my 01~ same goes for 8.8 now though motive makes them but there are still older ones out there here and there.

Re: upgraded gears and a diff. whine

You can still get Ford Racing gears for the 8.8" rear end. They are still currently being made. But as said, it's getting harder and harder to find actual Ford Racing gears for the 7.5".
