Manley rods

Ive got a buyer interested in buying my Si and was toying with possibly investing it in the Mustang. Maybe a modest boost application if Manley makes some rods for the 4.0L

Any info?

Re: Manley rods

You know... Manley isn't the only company in the world that makes high quality forged rods. I'm sure you can find a 4.0L bottom end that will withstand more boost than you'll want to throw at it. I don't know of any personally, but I really haven't read up much on the "new" 4.0s.

I had someone try to tell me that the V6 Stangs got the Ranger's 4.0L... I almost punched him on sight...2: 2:

Why? They were right. The 4.0 V6 in the 2005+ is also used in the Rangers and Explorers. It was actually first used in the Explorers in 1997.

......blinks......:pissed:

I'd have driven off in a 4.6 if I'd known that.. screw insurance.... sigh

First its a Taurus 3.8 and now a truck engine??? High time Ford comes up with a V6 for the mustangs.... Better yet lets do it fox style and give the base the option of a v8 as well. Why not?

Re: Manley rods

Uh... it is a Ranger motor. The Rangers have had them since 2001. It's been used in the Explorer since '97. There is also an older pushrod version of the motor that has been around in Rangers and Aerostars since 1990. They are both Cologne motors, but the new one is just SOHC instead of pushrod.

And I am slow.

Re: Manley rods

SO why cant we have an LX 4.6? They did it in the 80s and early 90's.

But to attest to the 4.0L.. it is a very stout and reliable engine.

Hey Brent???

If you're gonna go forged, do you have to go with Manley?

Eagle Rods are considered some of the best out there. I have Eagle I-Beams in my 4.2l stroker.

Re: Manley rods

tit for tat most are going to recommend Manley. Manley is after all in all of the Cobras and not to mention the Ford GT, Shelby GT500, Lightning 5.4, Focus SVT, Focus RS, and the latest Mach1's. Sounds like a good pedigree to me if a manufacturer of high performance engines uses Manley exclusively... What has Eagle been featured in?

I don't know about Ford GT's, Lightnings, Focuses, or Mach 1's, but the GT500 has Mahle rods. But yes the Terminators come with Manley rods.

Re: Manley rods

So where would YOU spend YOUR money? lol If its good enough for a Cobra its good enough for me =)

PS the GT500 rods are rumored to be able to only sustain about 600rwhp

Terminators can handle 500 no sweat. So you tell me? Mahle or Manley? lol

Re: Manley rods

Out of those two Manley. However Eagle Rods are just as good as Manley. So while you may choose to go the Manley way there are other options out there that are just as good. Some of the fastest drag cars in the world use Eagle Rods.

Re: Manley rods

I just want something that doesnt turn into a pretzel when I start rolling up the boost. I think 15psi would be a good safe setting with some forged stock in the block and lower compression pistons.

Re: Manley rods

its not always whats the best has the most uses.... many great products get pushed out of the "light" by companies that pay to have their item used or win a "bid" etc etc. I have no idea on what the best brand rods are but I not a brand loving fan boy. I will do the research for my needs and go with what ever is best for what I am trying to do. Why spend twice as much for the same thing? If manley works best for you then no problem, just do a bit of research into it so you make the best informed decision.
