Have some ???s...

I have am looking into what my next engine mod is going to be and right now a SCT X2 or a Diablosport tuner is at the top of the list. If I added heads, an upper and lower intake, and cam with the chip what could I expect to gain in hp and torque? If I bought the tuner only and then later bought the other stuff would I be able to use the same tune or would I have to go and get a custom tune? If I didnt do the heads, intakes, and cam what would be a good mod to do with the chip? Thanks for any info.

Re: Have some ???s...

If you are planning on doing gears/cam/other engine things, I'd recommend waiting and getting the tuner later and getting a good dyno tune. No need in buying a tuner with a tune on it now just to pay more later just to have it tuned again.

Re: Have some ???s...

Will I have to do something to calibrate my computer with the gear change? How much would I be looking at to get a custom tune done?

Re: Have some ???s...

for pre 99's you dont calibrate the computer to do anything with the speedometer readings, its controled by a gear. You can get a dallas speedcal and hook it up and set it however you wish for any tire/rim/gear size ratio (within reason) and its around 100 bucks.

Re: Have some ???s...

Will I have to get the speedcal or is the difference going to be so minimal that its not really worth doing?

Wherever you order the gears and Tloc just have them throw in a 23 tooth gear for either a manual or a auto, I have a 23 tooth white one

How much is it going to cost him to have the gear put in the tranny though?

Re: Have some ???s...

The speedo gear is easy to change. It's the drive gear that you have to take the entire tailshaft off for.

Re: Have some ???s...

I have a shop by me BlowbyRacing that only works on mustangs and other fords and I have talked to them about doing it. They said it would be about 240 to 260 done and out the door for the rear. Sound like a good price or no? What would you guys recommend?

Re: Have some ???s...

For a gear install... that isn't too bad of a deal. It's not the cheapest in the world, but I'd rather pay more to a shop that I trusted to do it right.

Re: Have some ???s...

Yeah the shop is knows their stuff when it comes to stangs so they are the most reputable shop I know around here for that kinda work. If everything goes good I may do my engine work there too but we'll see.

Re: Have some ???s...

FYI, the 23 tooths is meant for 3.55's

3.73's will still have your speedo be off slightly with the 23 tooth.

Re: Have some ???s...

That is why I got the Speedcal. My speedo would have been off still

Yup. With 3.73s you need a 21 tooth speedo with a 7 (I think, could be wrong) tooth drive gear.

Re: Have some ???s...

basically if you want to half *** it put in a speedo gear as it will not be accurate with 3.73 gears. If you want to do it right buy a speedcal. End of discussion.

I put a speedogear in my 97 v6 auto before I even knew of a speedcal and it was off, you will also be commiting a crime as your odometer will be registering fast.

with the speedcal you can alter it for rim/tire height and many things so you wont be tied to the overall diamter of the wheels/tires that the car had stock.
