New Mod

Ok I don't have the money to go with a supercharger, if I did I would be doing that. But my car has a CAI, it's been tuned. I have Posi and 4.10 gears, axle-back exhaust, door scoops, 1/4 windows, sequentials. I would be willing to spend $500 max, but would anybody have a recommendation on what to go next, just looking for new ideas.

yes sir I was. But since you said that you could get some suspension upgrades. Front and rear sway bars, lowering springs, struts, and shocks. This may spark your interest but its 100 more then you want to spend but then again its just a suggestion.

Re: New Mod

I say long tubes and mid-pipe if you can do the work yourself. If not, some lowering springs and a short throw shifter sound like a good idea. The underdrive pulley is good for 8rwhp if you feel that is worth it.

Re: New Mod

Thanks for all the insights and upgrade recommendations, my understanding with exhaust and up's driveshafts is that normally just frees up horsepower more than anything else, you would notice those upgrades more if it was supercharged or something along that line.

pulleys free up hp. exhaust adds on to it. theres nothing wrong with doing them now. Exhaust is more for the sound anyway.

Re: New Mod

Does an aluminum driveshaft add horsepower or just free up horsepower? I was looking at one on some website and I wasn't sure if it was worth it. What do you guys think?

Re: New Mod

It won't really add horsepower, it will relieve the amount of mass in the drivetrain, there's less weight the engine has to deal with. You will feel some effects because now the engine can spin the tires faster.

Re: New Mod

It depends on you, 300 isn't that bad, If you had plans of going FI or adding a ton of extra horsepower, you could put it at its max power handling, so then you would need to upgrade it then anyhow, it's a cheaper upgrade for a little bit of speed-pickup.

Re: New Mod

Already got a short shifter. I was looking at long tubes but their a pain for the year I have cause they didn't make any for my year. I have to but the long tubes for a 97 or 99 and then buy this kit that blocks off something in order to make it work. And thier also very expensive since you have to buy an h pipe too. But I do want some.

Re: New Mod

You should cut the springs to lower it and do some other mod. Since cutting the spring is free if you do it yourself you could have some money left over. If you are real interested you could save up and slap on a set of stage three heads and cams from supersix.

I have heard that cutting springs is terrible..With 500 he could do a NX Proton Kit and Eibach Springs.

Dont forget install and tune. Definately cant do both. And if he is looking at getting a supercharger later, he should just skip the nitrous and add supporting mods.

Re: New Mod

^ Yeah forgot about a Tune but a N20 Install is not hard at all..And Springs are easy as long as you have a good jack..And you can rent a spring compressor for like 20 bucks.

Re: New Mod

don't cut the springs.. you'll definitely regret it.

IMO, lowering the car would be a great next step.. but do it right.
make sure you know how low you can go before needing to upgrade other suspension parts. shocks/struts will only handle so much for so long.. when i lower my V6 once i get my fox back on the road, i'm going to do the whole thing at once. springs, ccplates, shocks/struts, etc. the whole nine yards. i hate starting something and having to go back to finish the job later.

like mentioned, if you have a good jack and a good area to work in with the right tools, the install shouldn't be hard. i installed new springs in the rear not too long ago, and i'm a girl.. lol

Re: New Mod

I just finished installing my whole lowering kit. Shocks and struts, springs, cc plates. So I won't be needing to buy anything suspension wise for a while. But that split port sounds like a good idea. Now I just gotta find a muting of those years and get it out. But I do want a m90 supercharger so I don't know what I want to do yet.
