Re: V6 vs. V8....who wins?

I've modded my car, I have most all of the basic bolt ons, not to the hilt but enough to have fun. I've gotten a few 05-09 GT's but they've been few and far between. Honestly I beat a Dream Car Rental Ferrari, but only because the drunk tourist stalled it off the line. At the time I bought the car money was an issue and I'll be honest, I really like the pony package grill look on the V6 over the 4 eye'd GT. I have accepted the fact that I'm not as fast. But compared to my prior car, a 2000 Dodge Stratus, I'm Grease ****ing Lightning. Now that it's paid for I have a couple more steps and then I'm done and driving happy until I need to buy my wife a car. I plan on a new hood, getting a performance drive shaft, a set of the FR500 wheels in black chrome (I'm going for the staggered set 20X8.5 in the front 20X10 in the rear), and upgrading the suspension. I may remove the side stripes and go with a set of Le Man's stripes, I saw a company that makes them in tungsten gray which looks sick on my alloy color.

Am I going to run around racing every GT I can find, no. Do I need to, hell no. My car is funner to drive then when I bought it, it's one of the most iconic American vehicles EVER, and I do get a kick when some high school ****** in a stock Corolla with a fart cannon tries to race me off the line. Long story short, if your looking for speed go with a V8. If you're trying to compensate for a tiny pecker, go for a V12. If you want a car that looks great you can still buy the V6. You can even throw a little extra money into it and make it a lot of fun. This debate will always rage and even with a v6 you have to acknowledge that there's no replacement for displacement.

Re: V6 vs. V8....who wins?

My v6 killed plenty of v8 stangs, supercharged or otherwise

My 92 rustang was still faster than my v6 (and naturally aspirated at that) and now my 01 GT is faster than my v6 also..

Re: V6 vs. V8....who wins?

quick answer:

fast and cheap = not reliable
cheap and reliable = not fast
fast and reliable = not cheap

It's more than just 2 cylinders, that extra money buys a lot of stronger parts including suspension, drive shaft, transmission/rear end even wheels/tires- the v8 is actually more of a bargain when you do the math, ford has a much lower profit margin with the v8 because of how much they give you for the price difference.

Having said that I love my 6, just take the low cost and higher MPGs as a win and be happy with what you have.

yea, the more modifications you do to a vehicle the more problems you will have... this is the main reason why I dont plan to do much else... i dont need any more hp/tq for street use and I dont like things messing up. Hopefully I can avoid issues

If you do it the wrong way you have problems... If you do it right and don't half *** or have some idiot build your car then it will be fine. Doesn't matter if your driving a 500hp 4 banger or 1200 hp viper... you half *** it its gonna have issues.

Re: V6 vs. V8....who wins?

This is a dumb topic. It always, always will come down to who has the most money to spend on a car. I'm not sure what rock some might be living under if they think a V6 can't beat a V8. Just look at the 2011 Mustang's numbers. The V6 has over 300hp now? That's a touch more than the 05 GT's had - stock.

My car runs even or just barely beats 75 shot GT's and 8 PSI procharged GT's. That being said, I am running almost 12 pounds to be able to do that compared to a mere 75 shot or a mere 8 pounds. But once all is said and done, I want my car to be above 500hp. That's a decent number but hell, the new GT's have over 400 stock. What will the 2016 Mustang have? Probably almost 500.

This is true regardless of how well done the work or parts are. Tinker cars are put under more stress, and more problems arise from work done. Some side effects are unavoidable, but fixing them as time shows them is half the fun (if it's not your Daily Driver).

Over a period of years, it will happen. I doubt either of us is talking about a month or even a year after something has been done.

Re: V6 vs. V8....who wins?

So far, the moral of this thread has shown that:
  • If you own a V6 and mod it, then you can smoke a stock GT.
  • If you own a V6 and mod it, then you will be spanked by a similarly modded GT.
  • If you own a stock GT and get out run by a V6, then you must turn in your man card.
  • If you own a modded GT and a V6 tries to run you, you should feel a little sorry for the owner's short-comings right before you dust him off in your rearview mirror.
Did I get this right?

It's OK to express your inner emotions, no need to suppress them. Its a whole new world - so they tell me.

BS aside, you've done a great job on your ride - looks great.

Anything is possible with the right wallet. however if I ever dealt with another v6 it would have to be 2011 or newer. 300hp is a great start and we already know that motor can handle boost. Could probably push 400hp safe on that motor with no real upgrades.

Until a 2011 GT comes along, with similar mods. V6's can certainly be built to move, but can't out-build a V8. There's no substitute for displacement.

Re: V6 vs. V8....who wins?

We purchased our Pony Package Mustang just because we liked the S197...

We then went from SHOW to GO and now we are looking at an 11.95 or better ET.

A V6 .... 11.95second in 1320'....

Well, there have been faster ....

Our outlook is for an 11.7 run......

Re: V6 vs. V8....who wins?

I must ask does it really matter? I think not. My stang is a V-6 and I enjoy have the power I have made with the mpg to afford to drive it too. Now my F-150 is a well built 5.8 ltr and is quite quick with 33's under it but the mpg not near as nice so for me it isn't a matter of V6 vs V8 as it is a matter of keeping the longest running name plate in history alive and kicking. Mustangs have become a legend and icon.

Re: V6 vs. V8....who wins?

I didn't take the time to read all the rest of this thread so I'm sure i could be repeating some one but, i read that the 2011 V6 Mustang will have only 10HP less then the 2010 V8. I'm pretty sure you could make up that HP difference with a few mods and then the V6 would beat the V8.
