V6 vs. V8....who wins?

Now I know traditionaly this is a very easy question to answer, of course the V8 wins...its just simple logic, however with all the heavy modificationd available for the 6ers these days I want to know....any sixers out there pulling away from them v8s?? If you answer yes what is it that is making that possibly...supercharger, nos? Both? Niether? Just curious, thanks!

Re: V6 vs. V8....who wins?

Doesn't happen. And if it does the amount of money spent to do it isn't worth it cause if you put that money into the V8 you'd be a lot faster.

Re: V6 vs. V8....who wins?

its been done many times, there are many very fast V6s out there, as stock GT's are quite slow etc etc. A far as is it worth it vs buying a v8, nope not really unless its a passion dont mod the V6 to that extreme of a point.

I should of been more clear.... He spent alot of time and money on those mods and I don't think he got the results he was looking for. But if you did same mods on V8 results would of been pleasing at least

Re: V6 vs. V8....who wins?

Yes this is a very popular topic for all mustang/camaro/firebird enthusiasts, pretty much any car with a v6/v8 engine option, lol.

I agree with everyone saying if you take the same amount of money/time and put it into the v8, you'll be better off...it just makes sense.

But there are a couple of guys on the site that have built v6's that will say otherwise.

Personally I don't care how fast you make the v6...it will still always sound like a damn zipper...so fail in my book. A stock v8 will still sound better than a heavily modded v6 to me

Re: V6 vs. V8....who wins?

Depends on your purpose for the Mustang. If you just want a Mustang for the name and legend behind it then go with the V6, if you want to be different then mod a V6, then there is the people who buy it because it gets better MPGs.There is also the I cant afford insurance so V6 is the only option.

That is the only reasons I can think of to buy a V6. The only reason I have a V6 is because of insurance. It would of killed me. But if I could do it all over again I would have buy the Mach 1 I wanted.

Yah, I think the gas mileage and the insurance is bull**** to a degree.

I got quotes on a GT recently and it wasn't any more than the v6 (I'm 20). Back when I was 16 or so it really wasn't that much more expensive for the GT, but the particular year and trim I wanted was pricey.

I can see the Mach 1 being more expensive insurance wise...I got a quote for one when I was 16 and I would've went broke paying for the insurance...no money for mods, that's for sure, lol.

As far as gas mileage...I think a GT gets pretty comparable mileage...that stuff about v6's getting 29 mpg and a GT getting 20 is not true. If both are in great running condition then there should only be a 2 or so mpg difference.

The cars that require premium fuel stock (Mach 1's and Cobras) are a more expensive mustang to own.

I agree with the insurance on GTs and Machs its all bull****.

But Ive been looking for another car and I got a insurance quote for a Mach 1, 2011 GT, 2006 GT, and a few old Ford and Mercury cars. The Mach was cheaper then the 2006 but there was noway in hell I could afford the 2011. I could buy the 2011 and look at the 5.0 and rev it all day. But I couldn't drive it.

So I would have to say insurance is the deal breaker on this topic.

Re: V6 vs. V8....who wins?

Well tuners can make a dramatic change in any motor, You can have a van tuned to race a mustang(not literally) but a good tuner, intake, headers, ect little things like that can make a v6 into a v8 killer, but then again you would have to spend a lot of money. But can it be done?... Pretty sure if you have enough money you can.

Re: V6 vs. V8....who wins?

anybody can color and draw. but few people can use that crayon and pen to its fullest potential. so, the same can be said about this discussion V6 vs V8s. anybody throw mods to either of them, but it takes skilled, wise, and thoughtful person to bring the best out of either of them.

After I'm done with my V6 project will be contending if not beating modded V8s. Its not the medium thats the issue, its the person using the medium.

Re: V6 vs. V8....who wins?

Wow I really appreciate everyones input and views. I totally understand that a modded v8 will beat a v6 with the same mods, I suppose a 100 horsepower shot of nos or a supercharger would change the name of that game....hmmm...maybe I will have to step it up a bit with the high powered mods..oh real quick I know most people say, you should have just gotten a v8 to begin with, well I would have loved too and I tryed tooth and nail to but in the end my credit score was not high enough for a loan...so I have my v6 and I'm out to make it mean! Again thanks everyone!

modded gt, modded cobra, who cares. I've spent way less on my car than some people i know that still have slow 2vs :p Who cares somebody is always faster cylinders don't really mean anything..

Hell you their are 700hp stock block s2000s (stock block + 3mm hg + valve springs + arp studs) that would blow away a bunch of cars and thats at the price of a head gasket, valve springs, studs, turbo kit, fuel, injectors, and rear diff.

that is all.

At the end of the day somebody is always faster....

until the 2011's gas mileage v6 vs v8 was extremly close very very close. My 03 cobra has got 21mpg and more on the interstate. My 01 v6 manage 24mpg maybe... more like 22 average (19/21 with gears)

Re: V6 vs. V8....who wins?

a v6 has the potential to smoke a stock 4.7 v8. as does a 4 banger. is it worth it? no. possible? yes. but when it comes to potential v8 kick the shiznit out of a v6 and just murder the 4 bangers.

Re: V6 vs. V8....who wins?

WELL consider the fact that the v6 is about 200 lbs lighter in the front end then a v8 and that takes some advantage away from the GT. I say that in the long run with a driver that knows what they are doing and can drive the GT will win.

Re: V6 vs. V8....who wins?

This is dumb it will always come down to the amount of mods in this discussion stock and stock v8 wins 500 in mods for both v8 wins 1000 in mods for both v8 wins. stock gt heavily modded v6 v6 wins. heavily modded v8 stock v6 v8 wins. heavily modded v6 lightly modded v8 close race. IT IS ALL IN THE AMOUNT OF MONEY PUT INTO THE CAR.

Re: V6 vs. V8....who wins?

Ok folks here it goes. I haven't posted anything on the forum in about 2 months...I have ben busy with these Mustangs....I have a 2010 v6 Mustang with mod available on the market except forced induction and Nos, it is fast no doubt about it! I haven't posted in the last two months because I was building her up...I also restored a 65 mustang with a 68 gt 350 5.0 engine, high rise manifold aluminum, long tube headers, cam stroked, ported, polished, 351W heads, the full deal, 4.11 gears 9 inch rear end, detroit locker, and I can tell you this........my 65 Mustang eats my heavily modded 2010 v6 ALIVE, its not even a contest, the 65 is out of sight and there ain't no catching up! As always love this forum, love all your rides! Thank you for all your help with all my questions, you guys are the reason I changed my car fleet to all mustang!!

Re: V6 vs. V8....who wins?

the way i see it there will ALWAYS be a car faster than you
doesnt matter what you have
so if a v6 is what you have and what your happy with, why the hell not
i know that a v6 was the only option for me, and at the time being 18 with a wreck on my insurance the difference between a gt and a v6 was HUGE
like a grand or 2 a year
and now my car looks better than a lot of faster cars so im cool with that too
