Fuel filter?

Somebody told me that changing your fuel filter to a better one is good for fuel economy and a little power. Is there any truth to this? How often do you guys/gals change your fuel filters? And what are some good brands?

Re: Fuel filter?

Just use the Motorcraft Fuel Filter...I've never heard of any other type of fuel filter improving mpgs or hp. It doesn't really make sense since the fuel pump does all the work...and for more fuel to be injected you need to adjust the ecu and have larger injectors.

I replaced mine at 58000 miles and it really wasn't that dirty...certainly not clogged. I would guess your 08 has fairly low miles, so it shouldn't need one for some time...my guess to have it done at a Ford dealership would be about $60-80 with labor and parts.

You could do it at home but prepare to get wet

Re: Fuel filter?

The stock filters do just fine... no need to mod... However, from past experience, I had a lot of customers back in the 90's that loved using 104+ and they needed to change their filters much sooner... but again... there's no real need for using 104+ anyway all it really does is foul your plugs and clog fuel filters...

Re: Fuel filter?

you should change your fuel filter every 15-20k miles ALWAYS ... its just like an oil filter, would you go 100k on one oil filter? Plus on a live axle mustang they are VERY easy to change.
