does the order really make a difference?

I'm wanting to follow the thread "when modding a car from the start" and the first two things they have down are exhaust and gears, both of which I plan on getting soon, but I can't for another month because I have some money coming my way. At the moment I do have enough money for a CAI, which they have listed 3rd on the thread. Is it going to make any difference if I do the CAI now and the first two next month? Everything else is bone stock, if that makes any difference...

Re: does the order really make a difference?

overall, not much difference. You will probably pick up 10hp or so~ but some cars (most 05+) require a retune, make sure you know if you need this befor eyou put it on (technically the better CAI's that change airflow enough to require a retune are the best also)

Re: does the order really make a difference?

Ahhh crap, I totally forgot about a tuner. Guess I'll be waiting a month or so to start work then. Thanks for your reply!

Re: does the order really make a difference?

usually mods support other mods...EXP...if u wanna P&P you upper/lower intake it want do much NA...butttttt if your turbod or SC then your gains would be much more! like u dont wanna spend all that money tuning ur car untill other moda are in place....the order is not mandatory or a rule of thumb but more like guidelines...every gear head has his oen style and rookies usually do things *** backwards but hey thats how u learn! u do ur mods in the order u want to and were just here to help!

Re: does the order really make a difference?

Yah definitely plan on having a tuner for mods with your car. The 05-09's are way more sensitive to subtle changes in the a/f ratio. A CAI and exhaust would require a tune to prevent the car from running too rich.

As said, certain mods will support others and a tune will make the bolt ons more effective. You also have to try and plan out want you want from the car...no sense in spending money on mods that will be taken off the car later.

For example, underdrive pullies aren't necessary if you plan on supercharging...you won't want an underdriven supercharger, so it'd be wise to save the money for say larger fuel injectors or a larger fuel pump to support the supercharger.

what if you planned on turboing? would the under drive pullies be a bad idea, i dont see how they would be considering the turboes arent belt driven? i dont plan on turboing but i just thought id ask.

Re: does the order really make a difference?

under drives + turbo is fine, with a supercharger it alters the rpm the blower spins

Re: does the order really make a difference?

Okay, so do you all think that supercharging/turbocharging would be the best first mod since the mods afterwards would have more gains? Btw thank you all for your replies!

Re: does the order really make a difference?

well you can use an over drive for more boost or under drive for less~ but its all in how much boost you want or if you want to alter the boost with keeping given pullies given sizes for belt slip~ all that kinda crap
