03 starting problem

Having interminting starting problems. Have to jump the car and runs 2 or 3 days no problem and then no start. Run the car and 2 hours later won't start. There seems no rime or reason for when it will or will not start. I have cleaned the batt cables and had the battery check at AutoZone. Dome light seems strong but goes out while trying to start car though. When try to start just ckicks. Any ideas? Thanks

if the battery is good and the car wont turn over then it may be the starter

Re: 03 starting problem

Or could easily be your alternator. If you had to jump the car and it started, but then died shortly after this is normally a sign of alternator dying. Once that car is started and its not being driven (in neutral/park, but running) watch your voltmeter, if it starts to drop it could easily be the alternator as I have had this problem on my 2002. They are about $200 at autozone and an easy install. Also might as well take it out and drive it up there in another car and have it tested by autozone just to be sure before you replace it as they can tell you if it holds a charge also. I recommend having a second person help when you put it back on as its difficult to crank the belt tensioner with a breaker bar/torque wrench and line up the belt over the alternator pulley at the same time. Hope this was helpful.

Re: 03 starting problem

Thanks guys. I took the car back to Autozone to have the altenator checked and he checked the battery again. BAD! Don't know what the other guy was looking at. Took the battery back to O'Reily's and they made it good. It was only 3 yrs old. Was told to take the blanket off to keep it from getting hot.
Thanks again.
