Re: Instrument cluster swap

Well the speedometer on the gt reads higher and I think the harness might be different but if you get one from a v6 it will work no problem they aren't hard to swap at all.

Yep, never done the swap personally but I know it works.. You have to find someone @ ford who will calibrate it for you also.

Re: Instrument cluster swap

its far more hassle than its worth, plus the speed is harder to read in a GT

Re: Instrument cluster swap

it is not the speed i would worry about but the RPM gauge, I have notice that redline for the 3 different models are different. I was going to change mine but i can't find the redline with 5750 redline. Simco had one but the speedo was right but the rpm are higher.

I looked at overlays and they are the same one or the other is higher...

Re: Instrument cluster swap

why does the painted redline on the gauge cluster have to be higher though? redline is not where peak power is made by the way

Re: Instrument cluster swap

You can get them from ebay for $40-60 on average. Trust me I know. It really doesnt matter where the redline on the gauge is. Your car won't rev that high anyway, it will just bounce off the limiter at peak rpm's. The limiter is around 6200 for GT's and around 5700-5800 for V6's.

Re: Instrument cluster swap

The curcuit board is programmed to the car it was originally installed in. You need to go to a ford dealership and have it reprogrammed to your car. I have the same issue with a cluster from an '04 GT I just bought off ebay. It fits and the gauges read properly but it isn't programmed to work with my car.

Re: Instrument cluster swap

A friend of mine has a junk yard and he has a green 00 mustang v6 in it. It has a white faced gauge cluster in it, some one must have ordered it that way? because it only has 38,xxx miles on it. Was wrecked but the air bags are good I'm getting the interior out of it.

unless you have the car programmed from stock when you use a SCT programmer it takes the rev limiter off.

Keep in mind that the 94-98 clusters had the analog tooth gear driven odometers. The 99+ cars had digital readouts. Not sure if the wiring will work or if the computer will accept the new cluster...it might, I honestly don't know.
