Crush sleeve?!?!

So I replaced the pinion seal in my rearend a few weeks ago. Now when I change from first to reverse or vise versa, and start moving i hear a huge clunk from the rearend. Oh yeah, also when i slam it into second too hard too. Could that possibly be the gears slipping?! how do i fix this?!!? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Crush sleeve?!?!

yes actually i put it up on jack stands to hear or see where its coming from, thats them! lol Thank you! And now there is a howling noise when i drive.... it was realllly loud mostly when im on the gas, and would settle down a little bit when i let off but still do it... i put more gear oil in the rearend and checked my right rear brake. the piston on the caliper froze up so it was grinding like crazy.. so i fixed the brake and along with adding gear oil i test drove it and the howl quietted down quite a bit but its still there... keep in mind the sh** i did with the pinion nut... Any clues as to what that howl is?!?!
Im about to just sell it and buy a foxbody 5.0

Re: Crush sleeve?!?!

If your rear end is howling It could be a couple of things. It may be a wheel bearing or your gears. If the noise came after playing with your gears that's what I would expect. How bad is it? Usually once a gear howls you'll have to live with it or replace the gears. You could try to tighten up the pinion nut a little to see if it quiets down. I wouldn't drive it much till you looked at it again. Good luck

Re: Crush sleeve?!?!

is this your first gear change? did you have the correct tools to check runout and shim it correctly, what was your runout and what did you shim it to, sound like you need to redo or a recheck at the least. It's not a remove and reinstall like a wheel.
