Cool Starving for Fuel during high demands

98 Mustang, when driving the mountain roads, maybe a little too fast, at no particular time, the engine starves for fuel. Letting off and re-applying the gas pedal does nothing for it. Engine will only recover after being shutoff and restarted. (no check engine light)

Newly rebuilt the 3.8L engine, replaced fuel pump, Constant Control Relay and still problems continues.

I’ve checked the power going to the fuel Pump, with key on, I only get 6.9 vdc, which I believe is from the Computer itself, but not through the Constant Control Relay, in the Start position, the computer kicks in the (Fuel relay in the Constant Control Relay Module) and 12.4 vdc is delivered to the fuel pump.

Does anyone know what the computer voltage should be for sure? Or does anyone have more information on the computer, or ideals of where to find information.

Computer is F8ZF-12A650-HC ML2-981

Thanks
Darrell

This may be far fetched but worth a try, have you checked, or replaced the fuel filter to make sure it's not that. Is it spitting out any codes, or is anything illuminated on the dash when this happens ?

Re: Starving for Fuel during high demands

Changed the fuel filter and cleaned the tank before starting it after engine re-build. Replaced the computer today, and still only 6.9 vdc to the fuel pump when the key switch is in the run position. Computer must have the Key-Decoder in it, because engine doesn't start with the replacement computer. Am going to try turning the key switch to the start position the next time it starts acting up and see if it gives the fuel pump a boost. I'm sure it has to be something electrical because restarting the engine clears the problem. Wush the computer was seeing something to register a failure code. Thanks for the suggestion.

Re: Starving for Fuel during high demands

Hopefully someone here will come in with some ideas. I hope for your sake it registers to the computer. It seems to me like some electrical bug.
