how the hell did i just do this?

so i'm on my way home tonight and i get passed by a g35 coupe with black rims and dual fart cannons. the hwy we were on merges to another and i passed him back on that one. well, i got 2-3 cars ahead and i hear him downshift and do a ricer flyby on me. we make a few turns getting off the hwy and get into a nice straight stretch. i nail it (20mph) and as i am passing him he nails it.........he just kept falling back slowly until i let up around 90. i slow up to about 60 and he gets on my *** until we pass a car in the left lane, he whips it over and as soon as he did this i nailed it, he sat at my back tire for a second, then fell back and kept falling. he was an auto

i underestimated my car on this one.......i was sure i was gonna get strolled

Street racing is better to me than a strip... Street racing comes with disadvantages that you have to over come...Congrats on the win

Re: how the hell did i just do this?

where as i don't actually agree with street racing, Justin is right. anyone can drive their car in a straight line for a 1/4 mile. but not everone can navigate a turn at higher speeds without losing control. reaction time plays a heavy role in street racing. the guy next to you isn't your only competition.

:drive: Thank you Stumpy...

If you think about it If you do race in a straight line on a street. There is bumps, cracks, holes, ect.... You competition might have a slight advantage in the other lane with less bumps and stuff... There are more things u have to over come to win that race. Its not just line up... Burn out... Line back up... Wait for a green light and launch... On the street he might jump you out the hole and you have to catch up... If you do catch up then its an even better story to tell..

Re: how the hell did i just do this?

a TRUE race is which car can get from point A to point B in the fastest amount of time... you tell me how you can be accurate on the street... reaction time is extremly important, you might not beat the car you might have just jumped the gun and taken off before him and you just thought you did.

Well if you are faster then you should catch up and pass him... Its not my fault someones reaction time sucks

Re: how the hell did i just do this?

good deal

heres my take on the whole street vs dragstrip, dragstrip is prepapred and at one point will be heated for the whole tire thing.
The street isnt, and its very unforgivenable to your tires, such as if your tires arent heated up you can literally punch it and stay there spinning the tires

Cause Ive seen this happen many of times and has happen to me too

Then you like street racing vs real numbers. Street racing plays more on out doing the driver, not the car. Reaction time is much more important, as at the track the number you get when you cross the line has NOTHING to do with your reaction time.

Every .1 of a second you take off before the other car is about .2 in the quarter mile. Just imagine if you jump the gun by half a second.... the other car will have to run a second faster than you JUST to pull even... and thats JUST a half second faster off the line.

Agreed. I've ran my share of races on the street, but they were WAAAAY outside of town in areas rarely traveled and we have lookouts and radios to keep it as safe as possible(if there is such). But a true comparison of driver and car is at the dragstrip with even conditions.

If you get your jollies of dodging cars street racing and saying that that adds to part of the "excitement," then you my friend need to be beaten in the head and neck area endlessly with a Maglite. Racing in a populated area is like competing in the special olympics, even if you win you still legally retarded.

*edit* Actually, the reaction time in a heads up drag race does matter. I've actually beaten someone who had an elapsed time 0.15 seconds quicker but because I had a reaction time that was 0.187(had the timeslip nearby haha) quicker, I beat him to the finish line.

yeah I dont get why people consider that street racing either? around here we go to the industrial parks and race there, its the closest thing to even conditions.

But even at the strip it isnt even cause you gotta consider those who dont know how to go through the waterbox, drag radials to slicks not everyone gonna be sporting the same thing cause we all know slicks own us all

If you go through the waterbox and aren't supposed, you should also be beaten in the head and neck area. Track officials should correct that situation though rather quickly. If you race someone on slicks and your on non drag radial radials, that's your problem. That's why my daily driver tires are 275/50 15 MT ET Street drag radial.

Run what you brung and hope you brought enough.

i guess that's why i prefer street over track. if the car is comparable, not necessarily better, then it comes down to the skill of the driver. basically, if your car has even a little bit of power, than anyone can win. but that's just my opinion.

Re: how the hell did i just do this?

Actually after further thinking, I don't agree with spector 100%. I'd say the drag strip is more driver than car considering that a good percentage of "street racing" is from a roll. A 400 hp FWD car(let's say civic) from a 70 punch would beat a lot of cars out there that it shouldn't even if it was on ****ty tires. You run that thing from a stop and a 250 hp RWD car with good tires would spank it. Punching it from a roll is a hp/aerodynamics race whereas from a dig is a hp/suspension/tire/driver race.

Hey trust me im with you on this one but the reality is that officials dont really give a ****. I see it all the time at all differ tracks.

As for the tire thing hey not everyone can go and afford good drag radials/slicks so sometimes if you wanan race for the comparision it doesnt compare you know

Re: how the hell did i just do this?

I've seen 15 inch drag radials for 150 a pop, about the price of a typical good 17 inch tire, they aren't that bad.
