Thumbs up first mod!!

so i finally got to buy a tuner. i went with the sct sf3 from AM...the free tunes for life program will be nice for future mods.
iv only gotten to try the street tune so far, but i already love it. the shifting difference is great. iv heard that the race tune is pretty hard on the transmission though...is it bad to run it on that tune very much?

I would say it wouldn't really hurt anything. Especially on a stock car. It really just depends on your driving habits.

Re: first mod!!

actually faster shifts is better, the slower the shift the more heat/friction that builds up. This is of course not always the case but in normal driving faster shifts are better for the life of the trans (just like changing its fluid every 20k AT LEAST is something you should do)

Re: first mod!!

ok, i was jw cuz i floored it with the street tune and the shift was pretty hard, i didnt know if it would be like that with the performance and race tune.
also, is it bad to run a higher octane gas before you switch tunes?...like using 89 if its tuned for 87?

Re: first mod!!

you can run 89 if its tuned for 87 no issues, but its not going to help anything (other than if you picked up bad gas and 89 is a "buffer" if you will

Re: first mod!!

You should be fine running the higher octane (just don't run lower octane). When the tunes were done by Bamachips, I heard with the race tune they further adjust the drive-by-wire response of the throttle, so it is a bit touchy with street driving. They should also be able to provide a tune that either optimizes torque or HP (depending on what you want).

Not to get off subject, but I checked out the NQS website and I was NOT impressed.

And SpectorV is right.

Re: first mod!!

I think the biggest thing you will find out about the tunes is the response you get from the computer. I run 89 in mine and i dont have a problem at all.

Sorry people but i'm putting in a s/c motor out of a thunderbird and was wondering if i had to change my computer or get it tuned. I have a 94 convert stang and i believe is still obd1 and since the s/c motor is obd1 i thought maybe it would work, if not then can anybody help me on where a good place is to have my computer programed. Also sorry i know most of you are probley sick of answering ? about s/c motors.

You could buy a tuner online and the place you get it from will usually send you tunes and walk you through the process the first time. Or you could take it to a dyno shop if you have the money.

Re: first mod!!

But thats another thing i can't find a tuner for the 94 v6 they're all for 96-up at least i havent seen one yet, but another thing is that i've read on other forums/posts and they've never said if they HAD to tune the computer. I havent put the motor in yet but was wanting to make sure i had everything first, it will be a winter project since i don't drive it in the winter "salt/and to slippery" i have a ford ranger 4x4 for the winter.

You will most likely have to get the wiring harnesses and ECU from the T-bird engine and install it or have it installed by someone in the new car.

Re: first mod!!

You will either need to tune it (have you computer reprogrammed) or better yet use the the computer from the T-bird. Your car is OBD1 but it is not tuned or set up for the charger. As for the 87 and 89 octane, if you are tuned for 87 then buying the higher octane will not hurt but it won't gain you anything either.

Re: first mod!!

dont do the supercoupe supercharger on your v6, its not worth it and you have to pretty much replace the entire engine to make it work.

Re: first mod!!

Spector is correct after thinking about it the compression ratio is not the same and so on. If you are going to spend that kind of money go to a procharger or do a 4.2 swap.

Re: first mod!!

Try calling some local shops around you. Chances are if they can't do it they know a shop that can.
