Anyone know how to remove a door panel?

Does anyone know how to remove a passenger side door panel from an 00 stang? I blew my speaker and I need to replace it. I once tried to remove it before for a different reason and I almost broke it before I decided to stop trying. My sister blew a speaker in her 97 taurus once and that was an easy fix because it was held on by clips and it just popped right off. I may be wrong but it seems to me that the mustang's panels are held on differently. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Also, does anyone know where I could get a door speaker for a mach 460 system besides ebay?? thanks alot

Re: Anyone know how to remove a door panel?

Carefully lift the bezel that holds the window switch (be careful with this, these have tabs toward the back of the door that like to break), there's a bolt behind there... ... its been a while but iirc there are also a couple bolts in the bottom of the door pull (where you pull the door closed from)

After that, you should be able to lift the door out..
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, its been a while

Re: Anyone know how to remove a door panel?

Ok...here we go:
I have a write up somewhere, but I'll just do it here for future reference.

Door panel removal on a 94-2004 Mustang. This is for V6, GT, Cobra, and any other models, they are all the same interior.

First step. You push in on the bezel that holds the window switches at the point where the window switches are. It will take a little force and they are prone to break (both of mine are broken). There is also a clip on the back of the bezel towards the back of the car. This is a metal clip and is slightly difficult to remove.

Once you have this piece out of it's place you will notice the window switches are still attached. If you turn the piece over you will notice two screws holding it in place.

Take these two screws out and you can remove the bezel from the vehicle and put it in a safe place. Place the screws back in the bezel so you do not lose them. Move the window switches into the hole left from the bezel to keep them safe and out of the way.
Next, take the two screws out that are shown in this picture. They are phillips head as well.

The next thing you have to do is take out the "christmas tree" on the front of the door panel. You can see it in this picture: The easiest way to get this out is a forked tool or a flat head screwdriver and some patience followed by a pair of pliers.

From this point you do not need anymore screwdrivers. Just your hands.
You will pull up on the whole door panel and there are several plastic pieces that hold the door panel against the door. Just lift up on the door panel and you will feel it slide off of these and pull towards you. Now lift up on the panel and you can remove the door lock pin from the panel.

The next thing you will see is this (with the speaker still in it of course):

Remove the 4 screws (phillips head again) and remove the factory speaker from the door. Unhook the factory harness and either plug the harness into the new speakers if they are factory units or cut the factory plug off and connect the new wires.

What you should see now is something similar to this:

Now just put the door panel back on in the opposite order and you have it done.

Enjoy the sound.

Re: Anyone know how to remove a door panel?

If you have any more particular problems or questions let me know, I'll go yank mine apart and snap some more pics. Doesn't take but about 30 seconds to get the thing off anymore.

Re: Anyone know how to remove a door panel?

the one other thing is I heard that I have to watch which speakers I put in there because of the system being amplified. Is this true?? Do you have any ideas of what to put in there?

Do you have the 460 or 1000 system?

Re: Anyone know how to remove a door panel?

Sorry, just got back on here.
Your system has the headunit which runs the highs (tweeters in the doors and rear deck), it also has one amp in the front and two in the rear that pumps all of the mids and bass through the other 4 speakers.
I am not 100% sure on the effects of hooking up non-factory speakers to the 460 system. Maybe someone with experience in that field will chime in...

Re: Anyone know how to remove a door panel?

I've just always been into stereos.

I can actually call a friend tomorrow and ask about adding aftermarket speakers to the 460 system and get you a definite answer from someone who knows.

My car came with the basic cd player. I added the 460 system, then removed it and replaced everything. Only factory wires I'm still using are the power wires to the head unit. So pretty much, if it's part of the interior on a Mustang I can tell you how to get it out lol.

Re: Anyone know how to remove a door panel?

haha well now I know who to talk to if I ever want to completely re-do my stereo. If you talk to your friend, let me know what he says, if not its no big deal.

Re: Anyone know how to remove a door panel?

He said really the only way to add aftermarket speakers to a factory unit is to buy component speakers He said a normal full range speaker wouldn't work right if you just hooked it straight in.

So, according to him, you can buy a component set (separate highs and mid/lows) and it should hook up correctly...
