Clutch noise

I have a '98 Mustang, 3.8L Std. There is noise coming from the clutch that stops once the clutch is depressed approximately an inch. Kind of chirping noise. No noise when clutch is depressed more than the one inch. Noise is present in all gears, all speeds.

Re: Clutch noise

its your throw out bearing going bad, if you are going to replace it (cheap part) you have to take the transmission out (not cheap) so while at it replace the entire clutch setup.

Its not going to die over night, you have life left in it, just a matter of time though~

Re: Clutch noise

You shouldnt have to replace the entire clutch assembly. If your mileage is still pretty low on a factory clutch, its cheaper just to replace the throwout bearing. But while you are in there look at everything especially the pressure plate fingers and see how it is holding up. If you have the money to throw at it, go ahead and replace it all with what you want to put in. I replaced my throwout bearing a couple of months ago, had the same issue, loud screeching told me it was definitely time to replace it, havent had any issues since.

Mine died over night. I heard a chirp at like 6PM on my stroll home. The next morning at 6PM it was all she wrote. As soon as the car started I felt the shear terror of that screaming noise at 6AM...as did all my neighbors.

Re: Clutch noise

Isnt that the most awful noise?! I felt like my fillings were about to explode in my head. I was so glad that it happened to me at the end of the week so I had plenty of time to mess with my transmission. The bell housing kicked my a$$!
