Re: Air intake

you will gain a bit of gas milage with it~ it looks better~ it gives you a bit of hp/tq~ and it makes the car sound a bit better so in the end its worth it just dont spend over 200 bucks for one.

Re: Air intake

thats WAY off... divide that by 4 and you might be somewhat close. For the 3.8 mustang a CAI is a CAI they all work about the same.

Re: Air intake

To be honest, the way they are probably making the claim is putting the intake on a car that has been modified. If you have ported heads and intakes and a cam, putting a freer flowing intake on the engine will free up that much power. It's like sucking air through a straw versus without the straw.

On a stock vehicle, however, the intake is designed to give optimum flow to that engine under stock conditions.

Re: Air intake

many companies make many claims that are just not true unless you test it or do something special etc etc

Re: Air intake

I've got a jlt and love the look. I've had the nice polished alum bbk for my sixer and loved the shininess of it in the engine bay. they are all pretty much the same except for looks. and the only thing you will notice when you get one will be mpg and throttle response.

Re: Air intake

Get an xcal2 tuner with it and it will wake up the car alot. Especially if its an auto. There are deals out there you just gotta find them. think brenspeed.com or something like that has em. The C&L and xcal2 package is popular. Usually the tuner u get it from will send 3 tunes with it like 87 performace tune or 91,performace or 91 race tune. If an auto your shifts will be alot firmer. Wont be so sluggish from what ive heard. I have a 5 speed so.... But throttle response will be majorly improved with a tune on both manuals and autos. Speed limiter can be shut off. You'll get the most out of the intake with a tune also.

Re: Air intake

To be honest, I don't know that I'd spend the money right off the bat and get a tuner. It isn't gonna do that much for you at the moment. I'd look into getting an intake and some exhaust to start and then see how the money falls.

Re: Air intake

A tuner with intake is the first thing you want to get with the newer models. Makes a world of difference. Even if you dont get the intake. If you get the exhaust before the tuner thats great, gives you a bit more when u get your tune. Like i said before in the recent post you will get the most out of your intake (or mods) with a tuner. To be honest even the intakes that say "doen't require a tune" will still lean out your car. Its what they do, they take in a bit more air. It might not be enough to ping at the top or throw a CEL but it does lean them out a bit. I've been that route. Put one on, got the tuner later and took it to the dyno month or two later and it was running lean. If you get an intake its better to get a tuner/intake combo. Im just speaking for the 05's and up too. I know notta about how the 3.8's deal with tuners and mods.
