OBDII port not working

Hi again everyone I have a problem with my obd II port not registering with my inova 3100 code reader. I have a 94 3.8. does anyone know which pins to test for voltage to make sure it's getting power? i've checked the fuses and they are good.

Well since I seem like the only one on here that will answer your questions Did you clean the port with alcohol & Qtip. If all else fails I'll test my port and tell you wear the hot and grounds are.

Re: OBDII port not working

actually I didnt think to clean the contacts :S some engineer i'll be lol. I'll give that a shot tomorrow. If i had to i could do a continuity test between battery terminals and pins but i don't have probe wires long enough for that lol. Hope its just dirty, if it's as dirty as the rest of the car was when i got it i'll need more than alcohol lol.

Re: OBDII port not working

Here is how to do it with a paper clip and test light ok. So take the paper clip and jump from the single test connector to term 2 on the larger connector. Now the test light from the possitive side of battery to term 4 on the larger connector. Now turn the key on and count the blinks on the test light. Now if you don't have the means to look up the codes let me know I have Mitchelle on Demand. By the way 94 should be OBD 1 as 96 was the first OBD2

I'm sorry but the 3.8L V6 94-95 is OBD-2. The 5.0's are obd1

the test port under the hood of the v6 is for ABS brakes. I have a factory service manual for the 94's

Re: OBDII port not working

Check the wiring into the OBDII unit as the pins seem to back out of place sometimes. Your power pin may be loose.

Re: OBDII port not working

I have confirmed by extensive continuity and voltage testing that the port is not getting power.. i have checked the fuses and none are blown.. going to try them out in a fuse tester one by one to make sure there is no problems with them.
