Re: Upgrade

I doubt he can get gears for 500 installed so he will be out of room on getting a tune.

Re: Upgrade

SCT Xcal 2. I got one on mine tuned to 93 octane.

It rocks really hard on the acceleration...!

Re: Upgrade

Yep go with the tune for $500, gears will run you $750 for that set up done right. Besides you will need your speedo redone after gears, without a tune you have to go to the dealer and then they know you have gears!!!

Re: Upgrade

get the tuner first and then once you save up another 500 get the gears. you really need the tuner before the gears or you wont know how fast you are going.

Re: Upgrade

Yah, but exhaust is only good for maybe 5hp. A tune will get you a decent amount, plus help the tranny a ton if it's an auto. And as stated above, you can configure for gear changes once you get them.

I personally think exhaust is mainly looks and sound, extra hp is a bonus.

Re: Upgrade

you could get a gear/tuner kit from AM for $540... then you just have to save up for the gear install and you have BOTH done

Click for Manual Tranny
Click for Auto Tranny

In addition, forum members save 6%... so that reduces your total to almost $500 on the button. You can PM me for a code that'll work, or you can send them a message and wait for it.

Would not trust a can tune unless it was from VMP and tuning the car yourself without the proper knowledge could be very bad thing

Re: Upgrade

I would have to agree with the group. In the recent buildup of my car I "felt" the greatest gain from the gears and the SCT tuner programmed by VMP. I went with the 3:73 gears instead of the 4:11's most here recommend for an automatic tranny. I made the choice because the car is a road car and spends hours at 70 MPH. However in retrospect I kinda wish I had put in the 4:11's for the extra kick off the line. I'm not sure it would have raised my RPM's enough to make that much of a difference in gas mileage...it would have raised the cabin ambient noise level some, but if I wanted quiet I'd have bought a cadillac!
